Overview
Mount Shasta is a damn huge volcano sticking out like a damn huge volcano in northern California. It's not really on the way to anywhere, but worthy as a destination ski in itself. Most sides of the mountain have skiable lines and if you get off the standard route you're not likely to see anyone and have the mountain all to yourself, but you'll also have longer approaches. Spring is by far the best time to go with monster corn runs on the menu. Check the weather beforehand because this beauty knows how to rage with wind and weather! One of the only times I've literally been blown off my skis.
Skier access
The standard route, Avalanche Gulch is accessed by driving through the quiet town of Mount Shasta and continuing up route A10 to Bunny Flats trailhead at 6,950feet.
Self issued wilderness permits are required.
