San Juan Mountains

Overview

The San Juan mountain range is a vast area in Colorado that consists of many great skiing peaks over 14,000 feet including Handies Peak, Mount Sneffels, Mount Wilson and Uncompahgre Peak. The mountains are rugged and steep with long approaches and perhaps best engaged in the spring when the days are longer and the snowpack is more consolidated.

Skier access

Access for the San Juans varies depending on what you're wanting to ski. The towns of Silverton, Telluride, Lakeside and Ouray offer up entry into the San Juans. Mount Wilson access is as follows- Take the 145 to Silver Pick Road. Follow the normal road approach to the Silver Pick Road Parking area. Leave the Silver Pick Road just before the second gate. Head up Big Bear Creek.
