Overview
The Sawtooth Range is Idaho's premiere backcountry skiing destination with dramatic and rugged peaks that receive a healthy amount of snow. The access is relatively easy for day touring and a slew of huts and yurts make it even easier. I know I sound like a sales rep, but whether you're into steeps couloirs, open powder bowls, or nicely spaced trees the Sawtooths have it.
Skier access
Head north out of the town of Sun Valley towards the quiet town of Stanley. All along the west side of your car you'll be staring and picking out lines along the way. Most of the access to the meat of the range like the "Sickle" is out of the Redfish Lake Lodge area. For McGowan Peak drive past Stanley, continuing north and you'll take the Stanley Lake exit. This road is closed in the winter, but with bikes you can knock of a long flat approach.
