Description

The Icefall run gets its name from a cool little Icefall or two that form midway down the run, but this is no place to climb ice, this line is where you go to ski corn and powder. From the glorious summit of Red Baldy Peak this line starts by dropping into a wide bowl with several micro entry options. It benches out a little and then delivers a really fun and long southeast facing line with open pitches, some traverse options to snag fresh tracks and then to keep you honest it tightens up into a short chute before dumping you 2,000 feet deep into American Fork above Silver Lake. And now you realize what keeps much of the riff-raff away, you’ve got to skin back up a few thousand feet to get out, unless you arranged a car shuttle at

Approach

The day starts at the White Pine trailhead up Little Cottonwood Canyon. From here follow the road grade up into White Pine Canyon. Once you get into the upper drainage trend to the southwest in the woods until you pop out onto the apron of the North Face of Red Baldy. Skin up the base angling to the east until you can reach the ridge and continue along until the summit. The North Face is also a great run and can be a good option if the Icefall run doesn’t look good.

On the skin up out of AF canyon spend a little more effort and top out on Twin Peaks west, from here you can get a fun descent down the Tri-Chute or Birthday Chute to finish the day.

2000 ft of perfect-grade, fall-line skiing with beautiful rock and fun-but-maneuverable chokes? Very fun. Only downside is that it's a bit tedious to get out of. I suppose you could ascend straight back up the line, but it seems the standard is to go around to East Pass between Red Top and Red Baldy. Pic from the top of the line.
