Chris Kussmaul's Montana Mini Guides

From $4.95

Christopher Kussmaul is a devoted backcountry skier and the author of Peaks and Couloirs, one of Montana’s only modern ski guides which offers an in-depth look at the big mountain skiing within the five ranges surrounding Bozeman, Montana. Outside of the Northern Rockies, his love for the sport has taken him to Pakistan, Nepal, Alaska, and Canada in pursuit of bushwhacks, big vertical, and well-set skin tracks.

The mountains featured here are downloadable excerpts from his book, with some additional pictures and beta that didn’t make it to print. Enclosed in each PDF file will be all you need for a full-value day of Montana wilderness skiing.

Black Mountain - A rite of passage for Bozeman ski mountaineers, skiing Black Mountain is a must. From the "Y" couloir, to the Southwest Gully, and even the North Face Direct, Chris breaks it down for you.

Chris's mini guide plots the lines for you and gives you a heads-up on what dangers to look out for. Complete with beautiful photos.

Sphinx Mountain - A true Montana classic. Chris walks you through how to enjoy an all-day tour in the central Madison range with a great goal in mind, skiing the Sphinx. Complete with maps and photos. Bonus essay by Kristoffer Erickson who made the first descent of the Sphinxter.
