My Skiing

I've been skiing since I was very young, I grew up in the Boston area, tried racing for a season or two, but it never really stuck. Otherwise skied all over New England up through high school.
After college I spent a season road-tripping around the Rockies skiing as many places as I could. I then spent a season bumming in the Aspen area, and then moved to Denver. 8 years or so now later and I settled back outside Aspen with my now wife, about 3 years ago.
My skiing style & goals have transitioned from more freeride-oriented - really just looking for the steepest slopes out there and anything to jump off of - to more fitness and peak-bagging oriented. I like a skimo race here and there, but more recreationally than competitively. I'd say my seasons breakdown as:
~40 days of fitness laps at the resort
~20 resort downhill days (sometimes overlapping with a skin lap)
~20 days of backcountry / mountaineering / couloir hunting, mostly in the spring

My Gear

I started touring with some good old frame bindings maybe 8 years or so ago, on a setup that I used mainly at the resort. Then I upgraded to a Cast + Look Pivot setup on some Faction Dictator 3.0's (188cm), which I still use mainly in the resort, but for a short tour here and there. For the past 3 years I've now been doing all my skinning and even some races on a pair of Salomon MTN Explore 95's (177cm) with ATK Freeraider 14 bindings and Scarpa Maestrale RS boots.

Thanks Eric - got it, totally fair! I'm just torn because most of the RP 85 reviews people have posted here say they've been impressed with how well this ski handles some off-piste snow (as long as the conditions aren't too bad). That sounds pretty good to me, understanding that this really is a larger dimensioned race ski, as in very light and pretty stiff. Are you saying just be aware of that? Or also that the ski might feel a bit limiting compared to the F1 LT or Zero G Peak boots, and might match be...
Ok forgive the lengthy question here, I recognize I'm a noob to this weight class of skis. I’m looking for a ~1kg ski that will mainly be for resort fitness laps, and then some longer traverse link-ups & bigger couloir missions in spring, and the occasional Power of 4-type race. I’m based in the Elk range in CO. But my question is really two parts: 1) The nerdy part: does the RP 85 in the 177cm length really only weigh 15g more than the RP 77 in the 174cm length? They're listed at 950g and 935g, respec...
