I got these for Alp Tracks 85 skis. I like precut skins but wouldn’t buy these again. They seem to take on water easier than my other skins, they are difficult to rip even after a lot of use, and the glue started to come off in small areas very quickly. The tail attachments also loosen occasionally and are difficult to get back into place.
I started with the Gara Titan Brake on race skis, and then put these on lightweight backcountry skis. These are everything I could want in a binding. The weight and durability are great. I love being able to open the binding with my hand when putting on skis in sketchy positions. The retention has also been flawless so far even with the lightest heel spring.
I use two of these for spring skiing with the Alpine Carbon Cork WR Pole. It’s an almost perfect setup. It’s light enough that I never bother taking off the Whippets. The Alpine Whippet is a much better compromise than the original Whippet in terms of weight and downhill safety. I don’t expect to use an axe very often since getting these, however I don’t do very sketchy climbs.
