Good ski across many conditions. Not the lightest 85mm ski, but that translates into consistent performance on downhills. Able to carve or smear in firm snow and they handle powder better than 85mm should.
The tight turning radius is noticable in firm steeps +45° requiring more focus. The metal mounting plate is confidence inspiring.
Atomic Backland 85 - Women
The Backland 85 is a “core” ski for Atomic. As opposed to the Ultralight version, the 85 focuses on value and simple enjoyment. The Backlands are known for their compliance, meaning they seem to just do what you want them to do. It’s the perfect ski for building confidence in the backcountry while also handling light inbounds usage. Not too stiff, not too twitchy, not too heavy, and not too fragile, you could more easily describe what the Women’s Backland 85 isn’t. Stick to the basics of simple enjoyment with Atomic’s indescribable Backland 85W ski.
- HRZN tech tip makes for easy turn initiation in powder while adding float in powder.
- Duracap sidewall is a durable construction that will last you many seasons.
- Carbon backbone around an Ultra Light woodcore is a stable, easy platform.
- Glossy topsheet keeps too much snow from building up on your ascent.

What length ski would I need for the atomic backland 85? I am 4 feet 11 and about 112 pounds

Hi Jenn,
Ski length is to some extent personal preference, but as a default, we would size you at around a 148-150cm in this type of ski. This would come to the top of your head. You could go longer, gaining some more floatation and stability, but it would be a bit harder to handle in tight places and would be geared more towards an aggressive skier.
