Hey!
I just wanted to ask a question: is there any sort of durable face fabric around the ankles that would serve as a gaiter? Is that spelled right?
The Mercury is a softshell pant made with Schoeller Dynatec fabric. It’s a protective, hard-wearing material that Crazy Idea assembled into a ski touring and mountaineering pant. The Mercury is a thin shell that keeps out the weather while you’re on the go. There is a soft lining under the reinforced knees, but otherwise is just the breathable shell. It has boot buckle cutouts so you can manipulate your two-buckle boots without lifting the pant and letting snow in. Two side pockets have bonded zippers and the elastic waistband has a drawstring for obtaining the perfect fit. The Crazy Idea Mercury pant is a functional softshell pant with Italian style.
- Athletic cut and simple drawstring elastic waist can be worn on daily missions.
- Taped seams and bonded zippers add to the weather resistance of the fabric.
- Zippered cuffs have cutout areas for Dynafit TLT-style boots, Aliens, and Syborgs.
- Lined and reinforced knees offer good shred-resistance while shredding.

Hi Casper, the Mercury pant doesn't have scuff guards or an internal nylon gaiter. It relies on a relatively durable weave and an elastic closure to keep the pants in place and in one piece.

Yes! I've been looking for pants like this for years. I will wear these 80-90% of my time on skis. Super versatile, super well fitting, lightweight, durable, breathable, and good looking. What more could I ask for? I'm 5'10", 135, normally wearing a 29x32 pant. I went with the small. They are quite snug, and the inseam is almost too short (about 30"), but once I have boots on, it's just right. I've been wearing Vaude tights that have a wind resistant front panel for colder temps. In spring I'm sure I'll wear a silkweight layer.
The fabric on these is amazing. The knee reinforcement seems really durable. The two pockets are pretty small, but zip up. And the zipper fly is pretty small. If I really need to go I won't waste my time with trying to fish through the fly.
Overall, I am very satisfied with these and highly recommend them.
