Petzl Ange L Carabiner
The weight of a wire-gate with the function of a traditional spring-gate? Sounds great! Petzl’s new Ange L (L for Large) weighs in at a svelte 34g with a seriously impressive 22kn major axis breaking strength. This is primarily due to the H-profile shaping. However, none of this matters if the gear doesn’t function properly. Luckily, the Ange is also incredibly well designed for smooth operation. Rope deflectors are shaped into either end to coax the rope into a rounded notch for smooth gliding, optimal wear, and proper loading along the major axis.
- MonoFil Keylock is smooth, light, and easy to operate with gloves.
- Open nose design to allow for proper debris clearing, ensuring fuss-free operation.
- H-Profile sheds weight while boosting stiffness and open gate strength.
- Also comes in a small version.

I love this carabiner. I use it for racking stoppers. The action on the gate is. So smooth. The color is easy to see on my harness. Also has great application for random things to carry. I use one to rack emergency gear like knife, prussik, etc. Incredibly lightweight too. If you are doing an alpine route with skis on your back you could have 40 biners on your harness with a double rack and 10 slings. Gotta be careful what you pick as a draw. This is a great choice.
