Good little tool - keep in the top of my pack as weighs nothing and can be either quite useful or even fun (to just know angle) depending on the situation.
You can, of course, use the new tech (iPhone) - but this one will never run out of battery.
BCA Slope Meter
The BCA Slope Meter is a necessary tool for just about any backcountry enthusiast. The simple device is great for validating your choice of ski line, ensuring proper bragging rights, and helping to gauge your comfort level in questionable terrain. At the very least, it’s a great way to hone your instincts with many rounds of “guess the slope angle”. The BCA Slope Meter doesn’t require batteries and belongs in the pack of anybody that spends time on snow.

I had the old style, which shattered in my pocket (quite disappointing). This new style is more durable, but definitely not as easy to use with a pole. But if you want to stay off of avy terrain, this is a must have.

Great tool for the hip belt pocket, especially if your just getting out for the first time and need to dial in your eye for slope angle. After a few seasons though the surface has almost entirely worn off and I've switched to using an inclinometer on my phone.

This is a nice little pocket tool, but a little too basic and flimsy feeling to inspire a lot of confidence. I am staying with my Old half-moon one for the moment (which has a great groove for a pole for when you want a larger sample for your angles).
But if it comes to have no inclinometer or having this, grab one... there aren’t many options on the market
