In-store purchases only.
Slotting between our Intuition and Zipfit liners, the Backland Professional liner offers a customizable fit to help you achieve your skiing goals. With ports that allow an experienced bootfitter to inject foam in your ankle pocket and to the side of the instep, you'll be treated to a liner that exactly mirrors this part of your foot. This will lead to increased comfort, better performance, and hopefully more fun! Because the foam has to be injected, this process is best done in-store, so please schedule an appointment and come on down!

As a boot fitter myself, I’m currently playing the game I tell everyone can’t be won, I’m trying to make a mid volume shell fit my low volume feet. I don’t have much experience with foam injected liners, especially for touring boots… do these liners have enough room to try and span the gap from a mid volume boot to low volume ankle? These would be going in a pair of Fischer trans alp pro shells.

Hi Caleb,
You could take up a bit more space in the heel and ankle area than with a normal liner - however, there is a limit, and the injection is designed to give a custom fit more than it's designed to be over-filled to take up space. So, it depends on the amount of excessive volume that you have!

does the injected foam go around your heel as well as around your ankle bones?
Other than the injected foam the liner is nearly the same as the Backland XTD 120 liner, right? Do those tend to hold up well or pack out quickly like a lot of stock liners?

Hi Justin,
The foam is primarily around the ankle bone. Maybe a bit on the side of the heel, less so around the back of the heel. They are very similar to the Backland XTD 120, and tend to hold up pretty well. Comparable to an Intuition, definitely better than stock.

How much does the Backland Professional liner with 26.5 worth of foam injected weigh?

Thanks, Emmet, I happen to have a used injection tube here and it weighs 29 grams with some foam in the tubes, so that gives a pretty good idea of the bare weight of the liner itself.

How has your experience with these been? Do they "beef up" the backland xtd a bit? How do they effect touring?

Hi Gabi,
You could put one in a Backland XTD, and I do think it would "beef it up" a little bit! Of course, the biggest factor as far as ski performance goes is fit, and if you can get a more secure fit with these liners due to the injectable foam, then that will make the biggest difference. Chatting with my coworker who has worked with these liners before, he thinks that the foam is denser than a normal touring liner foam (say, Ultralon/Intuition), so it probably would decrease the mobility of the boot a little bit on the uphill/provide more resistance in tour mode.
