Ortovox Switchback 32 Pack
Here at Skimo Co, we love our ultralight race packs. But the reality is, for some missions, 20 liters just isn't enough. Sometimes, you need a pack that can attach skis in an A-frame, carry multiple ice axes, and possess a back panel and hip belt that comfortably handles larger loads. It is for these days that we are reaching for the Ortovox Switchback 32.
Among the most versatile larger touring packs that we carry, the Switchback 32 is loaded with features. You can choose between quick carry, A-frame, or diagonal carry options for your skis. You get multiple stash pockets, internal and external, for all your goodies. A larger than normal separate crampon pocket allows you to easily stash a rope, crampons, or climbing skins, for quick access without needing to remove the pack. You could even carry three ice axes if you wanted to - two on the outside, and one smaller axe on the inside in the dedicated safety compartment. To comfortably shoulder all this gear, Ortovox's Full Contact Light Back system keeps things light while offering enough padding and stability for heavier loads. Back panel access ensures you can easily access your essentials, even with skis attached to your pack.
For shorter tours when you aren't loading the pack to its full capacity, a 3-point compression strap system tightens things up evenly, pulling the load closer to your back. Small details on the outside, like gear loops on the hip belt and shoulder strap pockets, allow you to keep key bits of gear easily accessible. Daisy chains, a helmet net, and a rope fastening system make it easy to secure your helmet and rope on long approaches. If you're looking for a do-it-all touring pack with serious mountaineering chops, we'd recommend taking a serious look at the Switchback 32 from Ortovox.
- External ice axe (x2) and trekking pole fasteners allow you to bring along and stow items for technical ascents.
- Helmet net, rope attachment, and daisy chains on the outside allow you to bring along all the required goodies.
- Quick-attach parallel ski fastener allows you to take your skis on and off the pack without removing it.
- A-frame and diagonal ski carry options provide a secure attachment for extended carry or booting sections.
- Separate safety compartment with space for your probe, shovel, shovel handle, and a smaller ice axe.
- Separate pocket allows you to easily stash and access ski/boot crampons, climbing skins, or even a rope, without needing to remove the pack.
- Full Contact Light Back system evenly distributes larger loads, allowing you to remain comfortable for longer objectives.
- Additional compartment allows you to stash ski goggles, nutrition, a map, or whatever else you want to remain close at hand.
