A glove layering system is an often overlooked but highly effective solution to keep your hands warm, dry, and ready to go throughout the day. If your hands run on the warmer side, why carry a bulky, heavy-duty pair of mitts alongside your gloves when you can throw on a light overmitt, and turn what you've got into a water and windproof system? Black Diamond certainly thinks this is a worthwhile endeavor, and offers a well-engineered solution, cleverly called Waterproof Overmitts. The 3-Layer BD.dry waterproof and breathable shell fabric works in unison with the Durable Water Repellent (DWR) coating to keep the elements out while still allowing your perspiration to escape, helping keep your hands warm and dry. The textured palm lets you hold onto your poles, shovel handle, or on for dear life, should it come to that. The mitt-style shape fits over most gloves while the drawstring adjustable cuff lets you seal out the elements. Whether booting up a couloir, harvesting powder in a snow storm, or trying to add some warmth and weather protection, the Waterproof Overmitts are up to the task.

  • BD.dry™ 3L shell with DWR is waterproof, breathable, and has a nice stretch.
  • Textured palm panels allow you to grip whatever object you please.
  • Mitt-style shape will fit over most handwear.
  • Reflective logos may or may not give away your position, which depending on your perspective, is either a good or bad thing.
  • Pull cord wrist closure seals up the cuff to keep the weather out.

Questions & Reviews

CDB (used product a few times)
I’ve had these for a couple seasons. My hands tend to get cold so I thought they would be a good layering option. I ended up rarely using them and don’t carry them anymore. They’re a bit bulky and reduce dexterity a lot. I needed to size down to get a good fit.

In regards to sizing...

I wear a medium in most BD, CAMP, and OR gloves. I have these as well in a medium and they fit nicely as an overglove. Big enough to fit over a medium BD heavy weight soft shell glove but not too sloppy.
