Crazy Idea Acceleration Jacket - 2021/22

Discontinued

Straight from the skin tracks of Italy, the Crazy Idea Acceleration jacket not only looks good, but is way more functional than your average fleece. Sure, it's comfy and cozy like only a fleece can be on those cold days when your toes are going numb. But due to a stiffer face material that's coated with a durable water-repellent, it also holds up quite well as an outer layer when the weather is nice or even moody. The Acceleration hits the sweet spot between mid and outer layer, holding up well to the intermittent weather that tends to roll in unexpectedly in the alpine. This inside is a luxuriously soft, block-pattern fleece, making the jacket warm (but not too warm) and breathable (without being too lightweight). With three zippered external pockets-- one on the left breast and two on the hips-- you'll have all the storage space you need to keep the essentials close at hand. The flat internal seams feel comfortable and smooth, and the chest and sleeves are cut to leave you plenty of room to stretch and flex as you move. Crazy Idea is always pushing the boundaries in functional fashion, and the Acceleration Jacket is no exception.

  • The full zipper has an internal double flap to keep cold air out, and your chin is protected by a zipper-garage so you don't accidentally freeze your lips.
  • An external stiff face material has a DWR coating that repels water without trapping moisture in, keeping you dry from sweat as well as snow.
  • The combination of warmth, weatherproofing, breathability, and compactness make this jacket ideal an awesome ski touring companion.
  • Fashion trends straight from the Italian skin tracks keep you looking like the coolest cat on the mountain while being the warmest.

Question from mbillie1

How euro is the sizing on these? I’m 5’10” and 150lbs, a men’s medium in Dynafit / Black Diamond / Arcteryx etc... would I be swimming in a large?

Answer from TSB

Hey Mark, if you are looking for a typical slimmer Crazy Idea fit, an Acceleration in the Medium would be a good choice. If you're after a more casual layer or something to wear over other midlayers, the Large would be a little roomier. I would say the sizing in the torso is pretty similar to what you'd get with a Dynafit piece, but the "cut" of the hem, shoulders and arms is snugger to keep things race-ready.

Thanks for the question! Generally speaking, euro sizing is should we say, a bit more "svelte" than what we are used to in North America. If you plan to wear this just over a base layer the medium should work. If you plan to layer over a few garments the large may provide the space required. Hope this helps!

Hey, just used the backslash pants today. Absolutely dig em. Dont seem to get that wet chilled feeling like i do with the century pants. By description this appears to be the closest fabric to the backslash but in a top? Nothing else uses the ittai fabric that i can see. This a good match?

Anthony,

The Accelaration Jacket has a little heavier "backing" on the inside than the Backslash pants do, but they would still be comparable pieces for temperature regulation on a day of touring. Hope this helps!

Question from Mario

Hi, is this jacket totally windproof? Would it fit on the top of a same size Resolution pull to get a flexible combo? (Resolution for warmer no-wind climate, Acceleration for windy but not cold situations and both for when it gets windy and really cold)
2/4/2020
Answer from TSB

Hey Mario, the Acceleration is a "hard-face" fleece material that is more windproof than the Resolution, but not totally windproof. Fortunately Crazy Idea makes some excellent windproof layers in the form of the Half Blade puffy or Tempest wind shirt.
