Like a teenage reptile coming into adulthood, the Dynafit Blacklight 88 has shed its skin and emerged as a fully mature adult, ready to responsibly take on the world. Not wanting to change what was universally appreciated, this latest iteration of the Blacklight 88 sports the same relatively generous rocker profile as its forbear, finding a compelling blend of maneuverability and edge hold. While the older iteration was wicked fun in forgiving conditions and on consistent snow surfaces, some found the flex overbearing in variable, 3-dimensional snow. Tweaking the layup, Dynafit addressed these concerns, resulting in a more forgiving feel in unforgiving snow. Utilizing a cleverly implemented triaxial fiberglass blend, Dynafit is offering different flex ratings for this same ski, allowing users of different weights and skill levels to choose what suits them best. Whether you count "speed touring" as a hobby or are searching for a versatile ski to complement your beefier quiver, the Blacklight 88 from Dynafit is a contender that will come out swinging.

  • Two flex ratings are offered in all lengths, allowing you to select the flex that meets your needs.
  • Generous rocker profile won't lock you down in terrifying conditions.
  • Paulownia core is the industry standard for its excellent weight-to-longevity ratio.
  • Triaxial fiberglass dampens variable snow for a smooth descending experience.
  • Manufactured in Europe and offered with a "lifetime" warranty.

Question from Blake C

Team- how would we feel this ski in the 90 flex version compares to the Ridge 95? Trying to decide between two, but they seem awfully similar? Thanks!

Answer from jbo

Hi Blake, the Ridge is a bit stiffer in the tip and can be driven harder. They both hold a great edge. There's a surprising amount of rocker in the 88, making soft-snow performance not all that far off. I agree it's a tough call, probably depends on what else is in your quiver.

Thanks JBO! Im 6ft 190lbs - should I go 178 or 172? Im sure the 172 would be fine, just wondering if it would also be fine at my weight + a pack.

Hi Blake, unless you wanted a mountaineering or fitness ski, I would go 178 for an all-rounder.

Question from Anthony O

Is even the 90 flex softer than the old version? Or is the 90 the same. How would you compare the flex to the ridge 95 and tigard 97 in both the 70 and 90?

I enjoy the flex of the la machines. Last I was on the mini. Is the minis flex (I believe it's the 2 now) in the store closer to the 70 or 90 flex

Answer from jbo

Hey Anthony! I would say the old 88 is more like a 95-100 on this scale. The Ridge is quite comparable to the new 90, maybe a touch softer in the tail but stiffer in the tip. The Mini might be an 80 but it's a rounder flex. The Tigards are softer yet.

Hi Anthony, we did a side-by-side ski test today on the 70s & 90s. It's hard to tell the difference on hard snow; they both railed on edge. The 70s are a touch softer in the tip, you can see a bit more vibration; that would make them potentially better in soft snow.
