With a heritage spanning over 100 years, Kastle has learned a thing or two when designing high-performance skis. With the TX 99, this technological prowess is on display. If you've seen Kastle skis in the wild, the first thing that likely would have drawn your attention is the colored and slightly transparent insert at the tip, which Kastle dubs "Hollowtech." This magical little insert lessens mass in the front of the ski, which reduces overall weight, helps with turn initiation, and leads to a damp and stable ride. Many can attest to the performance this Hollowtech insert creates, having been used in their alpine skis for years. Apart from the insert, the rockered profile and versatile waist width allow you to float in powder while preserving hard snow sensibilities. To help overcome unpredictable backcountry snow conditions, Kastle took great care to prevent a "hooky" or grabby feel in the tip or tail, which they achieve by bringing the contact points closer to the center of the ski as compared to the old TX98. In addition to reducing unwanted grabbiness, this also leads to a more maneuverable ski while retaining a planted feel that yearns to plow through variable snow. With the TX 99, Kastle created a damp, stable, and predictable touring ski, and we think they nailed it.

  • Hollowtech Evo insert spans most of the tip to reduce swing weight while providing dampness and stability. Oh yeah, it also glows in the dark!
  • Semi-Cap Sandwich Sidewall lends itself to performance while trimming extra weight.
  • Glass Fiber and Carbon winded Core offer longevity and durability without excess bulk.
  • Hook Free Tip and Tail move the contact points closer to the center of the ski, providing predictability and playfulness.
  • Tip and tail rocker provide flotation in powder and maneuverability in trickier snow conditions.

Question from Matthew Cecil

Wondering How these compare to the old tx 103's- other than just being a bit lighter. Also curious how they compare to other skis in the general vicinity like the new fischer transalp 105/ backland 102?

Answer from eric

Matthew, The new TX 99 is much more stable, powerful, and confident inspiring without being demanding. Comparing to other skis in its width the TX99 is definitely a step above the others in performance. If you like to dive deeper reach out to us at help@skimo.co.

Question from Spencer

I am looking at these skis as well as the Black Crows Navis Freebird 102mm. I know they have differences, but it seems like there are some similarities as well. How do you feel like they compare? I like a shorter turn radius for thinks like tree skiing and don't generally ski at very high speeds. Thanks.

Answer from Carlos M

Hi Spencer,

Thanks for writing in! Having skied both, I think this ski turns easier than the Navis. It's friendly at lower speeds, but doesn't fold up at high speeds either. It's also noticably lighter than the Navis on the uphill! While I enjoyed my Navis Freebirds while I had them, I really liked the Kastles and I think they are a more well-rounded ski for all types of terrain and conditions, including powder and tree skiing.

Wondering how these compare to my older tx98

Answer from Niko M

Hi Barry!
We have found the TX99 to be an overall improvement to the TX98. The TX99 sports a slightly rounder flex profile and generally a more approachable nature. Additionally, the TX99 seems more forgiving and compliant at slower speeds. Despite all these qualities, they didn't lose that special Kastle feel and still remain a powerful, planted ski. I think if you enjoy the TX98, you'll have the same success with the TX99. Thanks!

Question from Keith

How would this ski compare to the Blizzard Zero G 105? Would it be pretty similar?

Answer from Emmett I

Hi Keith,

The TX99 is a bit turnier, and maybe a bit more capable in variable snow. The Zero G has a longer turn radius, and they're less rockered/more precise than the TX99.
