Black Diamond Skin Parts
BD skins have some of the best attachment systems around. They are simple and stand the test of time. Find replacement parts or build a new skin using the tools below.
Skin Tip Loop Kit - A double metal-bracket system that attaches your skins securely to the tips of your skis. Includes all necessary hardware.
Cord Tip Loop Kit - Seemingly-race-style elastic tip loop for use on skis with notched tips. Comes with attachment hardware, but you probably also need some washers and a knot to make it work well. Weird.
Ultralite Tip Loop Kit - BD's ultralight bar and rope system that affixes to skin tips with breakable screws. Includes hardware.
Tip Cables - Replacement flexible cables for the older (2019/20) Adjustable Loop tips, without attachment hardware. Available in Mini, Standard, and Oversized lengths.
Ski Skin Tail Kit - The tail strap, tail clips, and mounting hardware used on all BD skins starting from 2020/21. Tapered cut to reduce drag.
Ski Skin Tail Straps, Pin Style - Pin style tail straps used on current preassembled BD skins.
Ski Skin Tail Straps - The tail strap and clips that are used on 2020/21 and later BD skins (no hardware). Appears to be backward compatible with the older STS tail kits.
Ski Skin Tail Clips - A pair of metal clips from the Ski Skin Tail Kit. Functionally the same as the older STS tail clips so they will work as replacements.
Splitboard Tail Kit - Everything you need to make a skin affix to the tails of a splitboard.
Splitboard Tail Straps, Pin Style - Tail straps designed to work with preassembled Black Diamond Splitboarding skins.
Speed Tip Loop Kit - Tip fix for your skins using a race loop attachment.
STS Tip Loop Kit Standard - Tip fix attachment for your skins, including screws, wire attachment, padding and plastic attachments. Screws meant to connect both attachments and break off.
STS Tip Look Kit Narrow - Tip fix attachement for your skins with a wire attachment best suited for narrower and tappered tipped skis.
Cheat Sheets - AKA skin savers, these will keep your glue fresh and your skins easy to peel apart. Stick a skin to each side of the synthetic mesh and you will prevent getting dirt on your glue and needing a ton of upper body strength to separate your skins.
Gold Label Adhesive - Folks who work out their lower body more than their upper body often think Black Diamond Gold Label skin glue is too strong. Folks who have skins that fall off easily don’t care; they want the strongest and most durable glue around. The adhesive comes in a 2.8 fluid ounce (82 mL) bottle, enough to re-glue a pair of skins.
Skin Bag - Simple nylon bag that encloses your climbing skins for safekeeping. Drawstring closure and of course, PFAS free.

Thx
BD tip and tail attachments are easy to use and very secure. I prefer tail attachments for any non-race use so far, because the peace of mind that comes with adhesive + mechanical attachment on long tours or for mountaineering is far better. I haven't installed tail attachments, but the tip attachments are very easy to put on. 3 sharp #2 phillips head screws, then break off the excess with pliers. Make sure you turn them all the way in, otherwise you may not have many threads engaged when you break the screw off at the pre-scored point. Careful not to puncture your fingers - they're really sharp, as screws go (ask me how I know). ;)
Major caution though: these fumes are serious, so use outdoors only (e.g., screened-in porch, or garage with all the bay doors open), unless you have an indoor workspace with real industrial ventilation. And although a desperate touch-up job can entail merely spreading on the glue (a disposal plastic utensil knife is good) and letting it dry overnight, the results are much better if you then follow the directions to lay on the release paper (which comes with BD skins, but apparently art stores sell similar parchment-like waxed paper) to ironing in the glue and then roll it in. (Don't bother trying to cover up your wife's baker rolling pin with aluminum foil and instead just buy a rolling pin dedicated to skin work -- worth it!)
The Adjustable Tip Loops and STS Tail Kit also merit Five Stars *if* you really feel the need to add full tip and tail hardware onto a skin (as opposed to using a simpler/lighter/cheaper race-type setup). I've had the STS straps on something like three pairs of skins: easy on, easy off, and easy to adjust, with a big adjustment range too. The tip loop is easy to screw onto a bare skin, and the adjustment range is huge (once you get the hang of sliding off the cover/bar, which is a very tight fit).
