Kreuzspitze Heel Brakes
The Kreuzspitze Heel Brakes are a fantastic accessory for the skier with a light setup who wants (or needs) brakes. This permanent brake is meant to be screwed on underneath the heel piece while mounting the binding on the ski-- Kreuzspitze also offers a removable version (found here), which clips onto the ski crampon attachment point. Like many pin tech bindings with brakes, while in touring mode this brake locks out, but while in ski mode these brakes are held down by the clipped-in boot heel and will deploy if you eject from the binding. Weighing in at an airy 123g per brake, the Kreuzspitze Heel Brakes are a great way to add a margin of error to your lightweight ski setup.
- Compatible with the Dynafit Speed Radical and Speed Turn bindings.
- Not compatible with Kreuzspitze EL or GT bindings due to pin height differences.
- All the metal on this brake is a durable steel, and is built to last for years.
- Brake clips into locked mode with simple heel pressure.
- Available in brake widths of 85, 100, and 115mm.
- 123 grams per brake.

Hi Colby, the price is for a pair.

Quite how wide will the 85mm brake go ?
8/29/2022
Tim- Generally you can get a few extra millimeters above the stated width. In this case a 90mm ski is about tops without some good bending.

It state that this brake works with Dynafit speed turn 2.0 heel, just want to make sure the hight of the brake pad top surface against to the ski top when it was pressed in ski mode? Cause I do have different boot : touring boot sole, grip walk sole and also alpine sole (all are Dynafit tech fitting compatible), I measured and they all have different heel clearance with same speed turn binding heel. Thanks in advance.

Hey there,
Great question! I just measured that distance from the top of the stomp pad to the ski as 23mm. Hopefully that helps clears things up!

I have Dynafit speed turn 2.0 bindings mounted using quiver killers. Can I use these brakes with that set up with existing screws or will I need longer screws?
10/8/2020
Hey Jay, it depends on the screw length you have currently and how many threads are engaging into the insert. The baseplate thickness for these brakes is ~1.5mm, and remember that you would need to drill the ski for a 5th screw to mount the front portion of these brakes.

Will these work with Dynafit Comfort bindings?
9/1/2020
Hi Eduardo, they are not designed to work with the Comfort bindings. As designed, the baseplates on the bindings would interfere with brake system. You may be able to modify the baseplate on your bindings to avoid this, though you may have some issues with the the spacing between the heel of your boot and the brake pads since the pin height is different on that binding. That said, there's an outside chance you could get it to work.

Are these brakes sold as a pair? Or are they $99.95, per *individual* brake?
I can't tell from the product description.

After installation, can these breaks be installed/removed in the field? Or would I need to remount my bindings in order to swap them in/out?
Also, is it possible to skin uphill with these brakes installed? (I currently have Dynafit Speed Radical bindings, bought new in 2020).

Hey Ryan, you would need to re-mount your bindings to remove the brake from underneath; they can't be swapped in the field unlike the Tech Brake. Yes, they do lock in place for skinning uphill.

Will this will work with an SCTT binding with a heel extension plate? Will it work in conjunction with ski crampons?
2/22/2020
Bonjour Richard du la Randonnee! The Heel Brakes are designed for the exact heel-pin heights of the Dynafit Speed Turn/Speed Radical or the Plum Guide, so unfortunately they would not work with a race binding like the SCTT. Kreuzspitze does make a heel brake model specifically for their race heels, so don't hesitate to reach out to help@skimo.co if you are searching for a pair.

Thinking about getting the EL bindings to mount on my Moment Wildcat Tour 108. I prefer a lightweight pin bindings with a brake. Are these brakes compatible with the EL bindings? Do these come with the screws? If not, will it require longer screws?
12/26/2019
Hey Roy, they do come with screws, but these brakes are unfortunately not compatible with the EL.
