ATK Raider SL 12 Binding
While the regular Raider bindings were already known for having a high performance-to-weight ratio, the Raider SL 12 from ATK truly exemplifies this principle. Utilizing the same tried and true heel piece of the Raider line, the Raider SL 12 has all the features of a modern fully featured binding: Elastic travel, two heel risers thoughtfully secured using magnets, adjustable release values, etc... While a little clunkier than the more svelte Evo braking system, the AP brakes are intuitive and simple to use, perfect for a weary person approaching 10k of climbing for the day. Putting the "SL" in Raider 12 SL, the toe piece has elegantly been designed with simplicity and weight savings in mind, perfect for those who self-identify as a "gram counter." While the toe piece is indeed svelte, rest easy knowing that is constructed primarily of 7075 aluminum, helping ensure they don't prematurely wear out. Big on performance but not weight, the Raider 12 SL is the perfect adventure partner for gram counters who seek out demanding descents.
- AP Brake System is intuitive and simple to use, similar to bindings from yesteryear.
- Easy Entry System enables easy entry into the toe piece, ensuring you step in the first time, every time.
- Cam Release system facilitates easy entry into the heel piece while providing vertical and lateral release values, which are between 5-12.
- Elastic Response System allows the heel piece to travel 14mm in response to the ski compressing, helping mitigate unwanted releases,
- Snow Pack Proof toe resists the buildup of snow under the toe wings, ensuring the toe piece doesn't get jammed with snow.
- Magneto heel flaps ensure the heel flaps don't start flapping.

Questions & Reviews
These brakes are of a very similar beefiness to the Evo! I did some measuring and the brake wire is of the same thickness. The Evo brake does have a tiny bit more snap to it when it deploys, but the amount of force required to depress the brakes in ski mode is about the same between the two of them. I think they should have very comparable performance in terms of stopping a ski.
It may be possible in the future, but we do not currently have brake seat covers for the AP brake and we do not have an ETA for them. The classic Raider 12 with the push-button brake should have pretty similar performance, and does have a brake seat cover available for it. ATK also has a bunch of great brakeless offerings!
This brake is a little different! No button on this one. Instead, you push the brake down and hold it down while you turn the heel piece into walk mode in order to lock it up for touring. Then, it deploys automatically when you turn the heel back into ski mode. So it actually functions a bit more like some of the classic Dynafit brakes. I think it's a nice compromise between the push-button style (a little less fiddly) and the Evo, which is more expensive.
