The ATK Haute Route Plus is the flag bearer in the "Lean" binding category that we made up. Skipping the brakes while offering multiple risers and fully adjustable release and sole length, the Plus offers just the right features at a compelling weight. Since it's all exquisitely machined and assembled by ATK in Italy, this is arguably the most refined binding for ski tourers looking to put in many laps in comfort. The Cam Release System features independent heel pins that can track to the outside for easy step-in and consistent release. Multiple heel risers have magnets in them so they stay in place when you're traipsing around varying terrain. The 30mm adjustment tracks accommodate your boot quiver. An all-metal construction with the latest bells and whistles from the leading craftspeople makes the ATK Haute Route Plus a great choice for your backcountry adventures.

  • All-metal build is impressively machined out of aerospace aluminum for long-term usage.
  • Double magnetic heel risers flip into place without needing to rotate the heel.
  • Included (but optional) heel adjustment plate provides a 30mm range for various boot sole lengths.
  • Cam Release System means the vertical release works reliably while remaining easy to step in.
  • Made in Italy by ATK.

Update 2024/25: ATK swapped in their new "Speed Toe Piece" with snow blocking and higher toe pins, slightly reducing the pin delta. At the heel, the pins have been laser etched with a 4mm gap for easier adjustment and the Release Value window was altered to help visualize non-integers. Finally, the riser heights were tweaked to enlarge the height difference between the two flaps when the pins face backward and the top flap is higher when the pins face forward.

Question from Mauri D

Does the 24/25 Haute route come with a new toe piece too? It looks like the old, trofeo like toe in some pictures and a slimmer version of the raider toe piece in other pictures. Really interested in this because I broke a toe piece a few years ago, taking a long sliding fall. Now I'm skittish of using the race style atk/trofeo toe.

Answer from Niko M

Hi Mauri!

The 24/25 model does include the updated "Speed Toe Piece". Although the intent behind the new toe is to reduce the pin delta and block snow, we may also see improved durability due to the increased construction. Apologies for the picture confusion. The photos including the Trofeo like toe is in reference to the 23/24 model. Thanks!

Question from Carl D

Does this binding come with titanium screws? If not, are ti mounting screws available to a gram-counting weight weenie?

Answer from Emmett I

Hi Carl,

The Haute Route Plus comes with steel screws. You could use a 12.5mm Dynafit titanium screw here.

Question from Sebastian

Can you put the Freeride spacers on these? I don't need breaks on the skis I would mount so it feels like a waste to have the intricate break system of the FR line.
9/28/2024
Answer from Emmett I

Hi Sebastian,

Not easily. If you can find one of the older Universal Freeride Spacers those would work, or you could DIY one with cork or plastic. Or you could check out the Slatnar ST Touring Binding, similar concept but with an integrated spacer.

Question from Michael

I don't care for brakes, but I'm not sure of I want elastic heel travel, as I'm debating between Haute Route Plus and C-Raider 10 (installed without brakes). It looks like the weight difference would be ca. 50g per foot for the elastic travel (after taking off ca. 45g for each brake). I hear conflicting opinions on whether there is a discernible (not just theoretical) benefit of elastic heel travel in terms of either a smoother ride, or more consistent release / less chance of pre-release. What is the opinion of the skimo.co team based on first hand experience?
Is there any other potential difference in quality between Haute Route and Raider, other than brakes and elastic heel travel?
Thanks

Answer from Jeff

Michael, First, this a great binding. Long awaited to have the Raider heel piece rather then the Crest heel as in the original Haute Route.
The 4 mm gap in these and other bindings has proved to be sufficient, and unless you are someone who can really flex a skis, the elastic travel does not really come into play. Other then that, the quality is the same as all the parts are the same. The Haute Route use the lighter Race toes.

Answer from Heiko K

Thank you Jeff. You guys are awesome. Quick follow-up: How is the (race?) toe piece of the Haute Route Plus different from that of the Crest or (C-) Raider? I'm realizing it is lighter and almost all metal, so I assume it must be missing some feature. Thanks
4/29/2024
Answer from jbo

Hi Michael, there are no missing or extra features in the race toes. They are built with the highest grade aluminum and have additional machining to remove material for weight savings, so a bit more expensive toe-to-toe.

Question from Carter Hudson

Does this model also feature fore and aft elastic compensation like the FR and evo models?
4/11/2024
Answer from Carlos M

Hi Carter,

This binding does not have rearward elastic travel, the heel position is adjustable along a track but is not springloaded.

Answer from Tjaard B

ATK has a bewildering number of bindings. But, if you look at them side by side, you can see what’s what.
Bindings like this HR have a race style 4 bolt base, in this case, mounted on a flat metal adjustment plate.
Bindings with elastic heel travel have a sculped composite base, that houses the spring for the length compensation. Have a look at the Kuluar, RT and Raiders and you’ll see the difference.

Question from Travis N

What is the toe/heel delta on this binding and what shim would I use to level it out if needed?
4/2/2024
Answer from Jeff

Travis, The Delta isn't significantly different from the regular Haute Route - +6.5.
Thats a good level.
If you want to shim more, it is the Crest Toe shim, we are currently out of.

Question from Valeriy K

What is the difference between "Haute Route 10" vs "Haute Route 10 Plus" ?
4/2/2024
Answer from Emmett I

Hi, the Plus model has the two magnetic flip risers, whereas the standard model has one single riser. The magnetic risers give you more riser positions, and less need to rotate the heel piece to access the riser positions.

Question from Mac

Does this binding require that you rotate the heel piece in order to hit the different riser height options? Looking for a binding that does not require heel piece rotation for use with heavy pack on long tours.
3/15/2024
Answer from Carlos M

Hi Mac,

This is one of the best options for people who hate rotating their heel pieces! If you rotate it when you transition so that the pins are facing backward, you can flip between flat, first, and second riser heights with your pole and never have to reach down. Or, you can even run it with the pins forward and still have both riser heights, although you will not have a flat mode that way.
