Purposefully engineered for ambitious skiers who prioritize uncompromising downhill performance, the Rise 99 V-Werks ski from Volkl proudly carries on the legacy of the legendary BMT series. With ample rocker lines and a tuned core made of poplar, beech, and paulownia, precisely milled to reduce unnecessary weight, the ski is agile and maneuverable in tight terrain. A Full Carbon Jacket, Center Sidewall, and Titanal Band offer excellent precision, power transmission, and damping, perfect for making strong and precise turns in variable terrain. Unlike other Volkl Rise skis, the Rise 99 V-Werks features a traditional sidecut with a medium-long radius that favors advanced skiers. The P-Tex 4504 base features special additives that enhance thermal and electro-conductive properties, resulting in an exceptional blend of wear resistance, wax absorption, and glide. Blending meticulous German engineering and craftsmanship, the Volkl Rise 99 V-Werks is specifically designed for those who revel in exciting descents.

  • Multilayer Woodcore Light blends different wood species for weight savings and optimal performance.
  • Titanal Band is a highly damp material that will smooth over rough patches.
  • Center Sidewall and Full Carbon Jacket result in an extremely precise feel in variable terrain.
  • P-Tex 4504 base features special additives for optimal wear resistance, wax absorption, and glide.

So incredibly capable. Disclaimer: I have not skied this version, however, as per the comments, this is just a relaunched mantra v werks which I have skied a lot.

This ski really defies expectations, having camber but being incredibly easy to turn, being 99 underfoot but having relatively good float, and being light enough, and yet still heavy enough that I've had weeks in the resort on them without regret. Alongside the katana v werks this easily stands alongside as the complimentary choice for non or shallow powder aggressive touring. While you can ski it with a weenie boot, there's no reason to. If you're interested in skiing this ski then ski it with a beef boot to let it run the way it wants to.

describe beef boot, what binding would you pair on there

I use quattro pros and recommend something in that class. Any 4 buckle or 1500g should be good enough if it fits well. I use alpinists but the old version required marker bindings. Id put trab varios on the this one.

Question from Phil

Would these be more a skier's ski than something like a Backland, and less pingy than something like the G-Zero?
10/14/2025
Answer from Jeff

Phil, They are a heavier and stiffer ski. So safe to say it is a more advanced skier ski.
Haven't had a chance to test yet, but I assume they will be damper and maybe better on firm snow.

Hi Phil, I skied them and yes, they are more damp than Zero Gs and more of a ski than any of the Backlands. They want to go fast and are quite stable.

Thanks. They seem like they'd also be a good ski for Spring corn conditions based on the rocker and camber profile?

Answer from jbo

Hi Philip, absolutely, they rip on corn.

Question from Stephen C

Is this just a rebranded mantra vwerks or is it the construction different? (Sidecut is the same.) That's a sweet ski so would be happy if they rereleased it under a new name.

Answer from Jeff

Stephen, The length and shape are the same, so maybe.........
Volkl did shave a bit of weight off.

Hi Stephen, some Volkl folks just visited us from Germany. I can confirm that, other than a couple minor tweaks, this is a relaunch of the Mantra V-Werks. It was loved by many internal folks at Volkl and customers so they brought it back.

Question from Sean

Are these a backcountry AT ski or more of an all-mountain ski?
10/8/2025
Answer from jbo

Hi Sean, these are lightweight skis that can be used in the backcountry with alpine-like performance. You can certainly use them in bounds as they are plenty stable and damp with the V-Werks construction.

(btw we only carry backcountry skis)

Question from Steve

Do these have the H shaped mounting pattern guidelines like the previous V works /BMT /Katana. Or can you mount any bindings to these?
10/7/2025
Answer from Jeff

Hi Steve,

These have a standard rectangular mount reinforcement area. Any binding is fine!
