At Skimo Co, it's no secret we are evangelists of the "Light is Right" gospel, especially when it can be used to reduce the overall system weight of skis, boots, and bindings. Designed and tested in the steep skiing mecca of Chamonix, the ATK Kuluar Superlite bindings are for those who want a light and reliable binding to aggressively tackle the most daunting couloirs. Compared to the Trofeo, the Kuluar SL features a more refined toe piece and lateral release adjustment of up to 12. The reliable R01 plates provide 30mm of BSL adjustment to fit your whole boot quiver, while the "airy" heel design is sure to turn heads on the skin track. Built for those who value weight savings and reliability, ATK considers the Kuluar Superlite to be the quintessential "Chamoniard" binding.

  • Alu 7075, POM, and Stainless steel form the foundation for this durable and reliable binding.
  • Monolink technology and Easy Entry System toe piece offer excellent retention and easy step-in.
  • Adjustable lateral release allows users to fine-tune the binding to their needs.
  • R01 adjustment plate allows for 30mm of BSL adjustment.
  • Included crampon receptors can be removed for additional weight savings.
  • Designed and manufactured in Italy with impeccable craftsmanship.

Question from Scott J

How does the Kuluar SL 10 compare to the Plum Oazo 8? I’m going to mount them to a pair of Blizzard Zero G 85s in a 164, which I plan to use for ski mountaineering and traverses in the PNW. With a fully loaded pack, I'll be right at 200 lbs, but that'll be a minority of the time. I'm currently leaning towards the ATKs for their overall ease of use.

Hi Scott, the two bindings are very similar. The Kuluar is a little bit lighter and uses more metal in the heel construction. The Oazo has the ability to activate the second riser without rotating the heel, whereas the Kuluar needs to be rotated from the race flap to access the second riser. Both bindings need to be rotated to access the flat mode.

Question from Daniel L

I purchased these with the intent to remove the r01 (5.5mm) and add the ATK toe shim (4mm) to my Kuluar 12 SL. When I put the heel and the toe piece side by side in this configuration, the toe pins sit higher than the rear attachment point, probably by 3mm, but they should be 2mm lower (11.5-5.5-4=2). Any insight?

According to the chart, these have 6.5mm delta in stock set up, so subtracting (5.5+4) would indeed give a negative delta.
I think you were looking at the old Kuluar, with the active length compensation base, which is a lot taller than the plain adjustment plate.

The easy answer seems to be: don’t use the toe shim?

Question from bruno wick

Does this binding have the same rear hold pattern as the trofeo? seems like a sweet binding to race mount.

Answer from Will McD

Hi Bruno,

The Kuluar Superlite comes attached to an R01 plate, but if you wanted to fix mount the heel it would indeed use the same pattern as the trofeo. No guarantee that the jig will place the holes for a perfect heel gap, however; mocking up the mount by hand will be the best way to ensure proper heel gap
