Question from Jerry F

Hi, are the Backland 95 precut skins usable with a pair of Backland 100s? Or would I be better off buying wider skins and trimming them myself? Thanks!
4/14/2024
Answer from jbo

HI Jerry, you would be better off getting a trim-to-fit skin and trimming. Those extra couple mm will really help on the icy steeps.

Answer from Ben

Also the Backland 95 skins are made to utilize the tip notch that the 95s have, and the 100s do not have a tip notch

Question from Sarah

Hi, I'm new to the uphill world so this might be a dumb questions. I have the ATOMIC LADIES MAVEN 86 FLAT SKI 2022-2023, 161cm length. You don't have a 161 length available in these precut skins, can I purchase the 157cm length knowing the tail straps are adjustable to a max of 5cm longer? Does that makes sense?
1/16/2024
Answer from Niko M

Hi Sarah! In regards to touring equipment, no dumb questions exist! These skins are designed with the Backland ski series in mind. With that, you'd find a better fit for your ski elsewhere. A skin from our  trim to fit offerings would be best. Send us an email at help@skimo.co to further discuss your options. Thanks!

Question from Tim

Background: I have an older version of the Atomic 78 length 170 with the notched race tip. The Atomic Hybrid Precut Skins are not sticky enough. I've had issues with them coming off the skis, especially during longer tours with multiple transitions, and even after trying to wipe with the Contour Hybrid Cleaning Wipe.

Question: will these skins work ... 1) unmodified? with plastic skin tip on notched ski. 2) by modifying the skin tip with a bungee accessory (or salvaging the bungee off the Atomic Hybrid and transferring over perhaps)?

Answer from eric

Tim- These will work with your skis as they are. You might still want to add a bungee for a tip rip. Once you go to tip ripping its hard to go back to tail rips.

Question from Timothy B

What race tip do you recommend if you want the bungee ? And how does the performance of this skin differ from the hybrid ones ? I'm wanting a skin for the 86 SL ...
4/28/2023
Answer from jbo

Hi Timothy, you can cut off the plastic tips and attach the Pomoca bungee, for example. Note you can get a similar skin with an attached bungee in the Guide Speed. These both use the same traditional hotmelt glue which sticks reliably whereas the Hybrid errs on the side of easy-to-peel (apart from itself and off your skis).

Question from Ginger

I have Backland 85, 158 cm. W. Would these skins work? I can't seem to find the correct length

Answer from jbo

Hi Ginger, for that ski we have the Atomic Hybrid skins which utilize the tip notch in your skis. It's a great way to attach and remove skins!

Question from Daniella P

Is there a trick for getting these skins off the skis? The white strap for the tail buckle doesn't have much stretch, so it's really hard to get it off when it's cold.
2/28/2022
Answer from Brett S

Thanks for reaching out, Daniella. These use a "traditional" glue, which means that while they adhere to the base quite well, they are also hard to get off. If you want to make the glue less sticky, you could consider laying the glue face down on your carpet so that it attracts contaminants (do know that this would be irreversible). Another option would be to purchase Atomic Hybrid Precut Skins (or something similar), that has a less sticky glue.

Answer from Daniella P

The issue is not the glue, it's the actual plastic piece at the tail. When the clip pictured is attached to the ski it's really difficult to get off. The white strap has no give and there is a dip in the tail so you can barely slide it off. I put the skins on tip to tail, and when I get to the tail I have to do micro adjustments on the white strap and black buckle to get it tight. My Black Diamond skins have a tail connection with some stretch in it, so this wasn't an issue. Am I missing something about the design or usage of these skins? It's frustrating to have to spend minutes getting these skins off in the cold! Thank you for your insight.

So, to follow up on my own question, I now have an answer. I threaded the tail hooks backwards. The way they are supposed to go allows the hook to go over the back of the ski and use pressure to release it. Problem resolved!

Answer from Brett S

Hey Daniella, I apologize for the delayed response. I'm glad you got it figured out! The plastic tail clip is designed to cam over the tail of the ski, making it quite easy to release.

Question from Mel

I have the 2021 atomic 78 backland women's in 149 length. The only size skin I could find is the 100% mohair. Does this blend come in my ski size/length? Or is there a kit to convert a pomoca skin (or any skin) to the elastic tip/metal tail attachment for this ski?
1/19/2022
Answer from Patrick C

Mel,

Thanks for the question! For your ski length a precut skin option would be the Atomic Hybrid skins. You can also build skins with our skins off the roll as an option. Hope this helps!

Thanks so much, Patrick! curious where I can find the atomic attachments for skins off the roll?

Question from Annabel

Hi - are these compatible with the 2020-2021 Atomic Backland 85 skis? What parts do I need to order to swap the plastic tips for a bungee tip rip?
3/15/2021
Answer from Zak M

Hey Annabel, thanks for the inquiry. These skins will work for the current Backland 85UL skis. Unfortunately, there is no real easy way to swap out the current tip attachment for the race bungee. You would need to either drill out the existing rivets or cut the tip attachment off all together to then re attach a race tip.

Answer from jbo

Hi Annabel, the Hybrid version of these skins have the tip bungee installed.

I have an older model of backland 95. They do not have a notched tip. Can I use these skins
11/15/2020
Answer from Teddy Young

I don't believe this skin will work with that ski due to the attachment style, but I'd be glad to help you find another option! Let me know the length and tail width of that ski, and we'll brainstorm an alternative.

Question from Josh

Are these also rebranded Contour skins, just with normal glue instead of the hybrid glue? Do you have any opinions about these vs hybrid glue (especially for the often-wet Sierra snow)?
10/28/2020
Answer from Tristan M

Hi Josh,

Thanks for reaching out! Contour does manufacture these skins for Atomic. The 70/30% mohair mix skins use the normal glue, not the hybrid glue. The normal glue has a stickier formula, which will benefit you in a wet Sierra snowpack.
