Knowing that the best protective gear is the stuff you actually use, dual-certification (climbing and skiing) helmets are quickly gaining popularity among backcountry skiers. They combine the protective coverage of a ski helmet with the ventilation, top impact protection, and weight-conscious features of a mountaineering helmet. A real people-pleasing mix not seen since pants with pockets! Julbo's The Peak LT is a classic-looking ski helmet that still tops the scales close to 300 grams. Winter and summer liners are removable and swappable, so you can take The Peak LT skiing, mountaineering, and ski-mountaineering regardless of the season. Strategic ventilation holes keep temperatures pleasant without exposing your head to falling snow or wayward icicles. The elastic strap attachment and easy adjustment system, plus a choice of three sizes, ensure an accommodating yet secure fit no matter the volume of your dome. Known for their eye protection, Julbo's The Peak LT is a welcome addition to the wide world of ski mountaineering helmets!

  • Double in-mold construction bonds interior foam to the plastic shell, maximizing strength to weight ratio and permitting larger shell vents.
  • Weight with winter lining comes to 360 grams, while summer lining reduces weight to 319 grams for a size large.
  • Sleek adjustment system at the rear of the helmet, plus strap adjustment, facilitates customizability when it comes to fit.
  • Headlamp attachment keeps goggles centered on long days out.

I initially bought this helmet largely because I like Julbo eyewear. I’ve ended up using it for all my backcountry skiing and just started to use it for skimo. It’s light and comfortable enough to wear all day. I have an oval head in between M and L in most brands and struggle to find helmets that fit. I went with a L in this helmet and it has plenty of room for a beanie underneath, but also tightens down sufficiently with nothing underneath. I ski with a headlamp often and love the attachment.

Question from Travis N

Is the fit more of an oval (Giro) or more of a round fit (Bell, Smith, etc)?

Answer from Julian K

Hey Travis, this fits more oval than a Smith I would say. The Smith Summit will wrap better around a more round-shaped head for example.

Hope this helps!

This is a great looking lightweight durable low profile helmet and not like most oversized helmets. Not pictured is an optional winter liner and removable ear flaps.

This helmet is the exact same fit as the Movement 3tech helmet, but has a different vent design, is slightly lighter, lacks the bike certification, and is cheaper. The Salomon helmet also looks very similar but I haven't tried that one myself.
