Ski Mountaineering places a lot of demands on a helmet. It needs to protect from overhead hazards on the way up and lateral impacts from a possible fall on the way down. It also must be light, breathable, and comfortable to wear all day. Enter the Dynafit DNA Helmet.
Featuring a compact design of EPS foam and a Polycarbonate shell, the DNA is able to avoid the dreaded bulbous brain bucket look while offering superior protection. Sporting certifications for skiing, climbing, and biking, this helmet is designed with versatility in mind. The channeled ventilation will keep you cool on a warm spring day while its svelte weight ensures it will remain comfortable on even the largest tours. Additionally, the DNA helmet comes with an adjustable and removable visor and is compatible with the Dynafit goggle system.
For the gram-conscious multisport athlete, the Dynafit DNA helmet is your one-stop shop for a safe noggin.
ISMF racing approved with triple (ski, biking, climb) certification.
Channeled ventilation for warm days and high-output powder days.
Compact head shape, minimalist padding, and svelte weight will make you forget you have a lid on.
This is the best ski helmet I've ever worn. It does seem like it runs a shade on the smaller side and because the fit and suspension system is entirely webbing, it doesn't have much room to fudge the fit if you're on the upper end of the size range for a given lid. That being said, once you dial in the fit, it's awesome. It's the only helmet I don't tend to take back off before I start the next climb. The bungees that retain goggle straps are a little fiddly, I don't use them. I also haven't had issues with headlamps staying in place, but if it were to become a problem some adhesive mounts would fix that issue. The only potential issue I see with this helmet is if you're someone who likes to occasionally wear thicker layers under your helmet - the fit system is not quick to adjust. But if you want something really warm, this probably isn't the helmet for you anyway.
Overall this is the lightest and to my head most comfortable dual cert helmet on the market. The fit system is finicky, and note, this helmet DOES NOT have a fit wheel (description is wrong). All fit is rigged through the webbing like an old school bike helmet (but slightly better) - I had to add some aftermarket foam pads but after that the fit was fine (and again, frankly better than other helmets I have used).
After the fit is dialed, this is a great lid and my go to going forward. The only downside that remains is that there is no way to attach a headlamp to this thing without tape - so anyone considering using this on an overnight event (PDG, EMGT) may want to take another path.
Hey Aaron, thank you for the review and for bringing the descriptive error to our attention! Dynafit was initially planning to offer this with a dial, however, in the end, they opted for a webbing-based system instead.
Its ridiculous this doesn't have headlamp clips especially since so many skimo events happen in the dark. the Petzl UNI ADAPT clips would be the best solution for using a headlamp with a helmet like this.
ohhh, that is really interesting. A buddy of mine gave me some diamond rubber grip padding used on motorcycle gas tanks and holy smokes that stuff is grippy (just stick a square of it on the helmet under where the headlamp will go) - but it is sold in big sheets and kind of pricey. They UNI ADAPT seems like a more thoughtful approach (and on brand for Petzl!) - NOTE TO SKIMO, get those jimmies in stock!
My head is 63cm in diameter and I'm looking for a ski/climb/bike triple certified helmet. Do you think this one would work? For reference, my summer climbing helmet is a Petzl Meteor and it *barely* fits if I'm not wearing anything on my head but even a thin hood can give make it tight enough to be slightly uncomfortable.
Hi Thomas! The L/XL may work, however I suspect you will find a similar fit to your Meteor, unfortunately. According to Dynafit, the L/XL is suitable for head circumferences up to 61cm. Thanks!

Looking for this helmet but not sure about the size! My head circumference is 57,5cm, what would it be the best size for me? Thanks
Yes, there is a goggle retention system. There is a bungee strap at the back to hold the goggles in place behind your head, and there are also two optional smaller bungee loops that come with the helmet to secure goggles on either side.

I’m curious if you all have a sense of when this helmet will be ready to ship. Thanks! Unless I’m missing something, I don’t think there are any other options for a super lightweight triple certified helmet so I’m super excited for this!
