As the narrowest offering in the revered Alp Tracks line, the Alp Tracks 85 is all about steep adventures far off the beaten path. Utilizing a hand-picked paulownia core combined with a top-secret multi-axial carbon weave, the Alp Tracks 85 is anything but heavy, allowing you to move quickly and efficiently on the skin track. With a revised profile compared to the previous generation, the Alp Tracks 85 has a longer effective edge, giving it more confidence in steep terrain. In the same vein, Movement changed from partial to full-length sidewalls for even more gripping power. The multi-axial carbon weave provides a smooth and damp ride while the premium base ensures you glide efficiently. Assisting with durability and reliability, the mounting plate has been reinforced with sheets of titanal and fiberglass, allowing you to ski with confidence. Billed as a formidable climber and descender, the Alp Tracks 85 would love to accompany you on the next adventure.

  • Paulownia core has been hand-selected for its lightness, ensuring you aren't carrying any unnecessary weight.
  • Ultralight carbon layup helps keep weight down while providing a smooth and comfortable ski feel.
  • Double Plate Reinforcement in the mounting area combines two layers of fiberglass and titanal to create a solid interface.
  • Premium P-Tex 4500 base is durable and glides well, even without wax.
  • Race Edge finds the right blend of weight savings and edge hold in steep terrain.

Probably my new favorite 85 waisted ski. A little heavy for an 85 waisted ski, but that weight seems to be well utilized. I am skiing the 178 length and with the little wider shovel and tail it has been a great semi-deep powder ski. If it was going to be in 2+ feet of powder, I would probably opt for my Backland 100s, but anything below that, this ski works quite well and is really fun. I have not had a chance to test them in icy or crusty conditions or steep chutes yet. Looks great, love the visible carbon fiber layers. Can't really comment on durability yet thank goodness.

Question from MATHEW G

How do these compare to the Atomic UL 86? Looking for a new ski mountaineering setup specifically for PNW volcanoes. Thanks!!

Answer from Carlos M

Hi Mathew,

Good comparison! On paper, these are very similar skis, and in hand, they appear pretty similar as well! The weights are very close, longitudinal flex is comparable, and the turn radius is pretty similar as well. Overall, they would both make great candidates for a PNW volcano ski, and generally would be great tools for fast and light days in the mountains. I think the biggest highlight of the Alp Tracks is its more premium construction - the carbon weave in these skis is pretty advanced and results in more torsional stiffness than more traditional constructions like the Backland, which will help the skis hold onto an edge a little better in steep terrain and feel a bit more precise and powerful whilst harvesting corn!

Question from Tony

I own the Alp tracks 106 and really love them. However i would like a more dedicated ski for skiing at the local resort with my 4 year old pretty much always on groomed runs and I also sometimes do spring mountaineering trips and traverses. I love carving hard and fast down groomers. I want a more dedicated carving ski and super light. I am thinking about purchasing the alp tracks 85 and mounting super light bindings that also have flat. will these skis be the best choice? We get a lot of ice and hard snow conditions and generally low tide. My alp tracks 106 are 170 length and I love shorter skis. What would you recommend? I want the new skis to be super light for traverses, kite ski trips in windbuffed hard snow, and carve hard on the groomed runs and maybe ski a couloir in the spring.

Hi Tony, the 85 complements the 106 well and is fun to carve while remaining versatile enough for traverses and couloirs. Kite skiing is a little out of my wheelhouse in terms of recommending a good ski for that. For the high-speed carving on groomers, you can't top the Adret 78 but that ski is skinnier and not quite as versatile as the Movement for the rest of your usage.
