Dynafit Mezzalama Race Pant

Discontinued

The Mezzalama Race is a multi-use pant designed for high-speed backcountry skiing, cold-weather training, Tuesday night racing, and skiing into late spring. It replaces the PDG pant in Dynafit’s line, which many skiers adored. They surely adore the updated version, despite being named after a different race. On the seat, hamstring, and calf of the pant, the 4-way stretch Carvico fabric is an incredible material that’s abrasion-resistant, breathable, and water-repellent. Dyna-Shell windproof fabric occupies the front of the pants so you can charge confidently into the bitter wind. Durable zippered cuffs allow for long approaches on foot and yet will still keep snow out on a cold powder day. If you like to move quickly in the mountains and like to get creative with approaches and routes but have no time to slow down, the Dynafit Mezzalama Race pant is the way to go.

  • Stretchy drawstring waistband and flat seams are as comfortable as pajamas.
  • Two zippered hip pockets are good for cameras, food, sunscreen, or even a beacon.
  • Brushed with a light fleece lining to improve warmth without affecting breathability.
  • Reinforced hem and zippered cuffs are a superb blend of durability and flexibility to accommodate different boots.
  • UV Protection has been built into the fabric, so go enjoy the sun!

Update 2020/21: This pant has been replaced by the deuce.

Question from Anthony O

Looking for a daily touring pant that can fit beef boots or race boots. Don't need any sort of buck integration just need to be able to fit over hojis and play with lightweight boots as well how is the cuff on these as opposed to some of the crazy options?

Answer from Brett S

Thanks for your question, Anthony! I wouldn't recommend using the Mezzalama Race pant with the Hoji's as the cuff is designed to work best with narrower race boots. If you're looking for a good touring pant that will play nicely with both beef and race boots, check out the TLT touring pant. In general, more "skimo" oriented product will have tighter fitting cuffs whereas more "touring" oriented product will have looser cuffs that can accomondate burlier boots.

are you supposed to wear anything under these pants?

Hi Ben, no! These feel awesome against the skin. It would take a very cold day for me to want to layer up underneath.

I enjoy these! I have worn these pants training in all sorts of conditions. I like that I don't get too hot on warmer days 30's-40's, and that they keep me warm on colder days. I have not bothered cutting them to fit the buckles of my Aliens, for me it does not seem like a big deal for training. However, I may consider doing such if I were to wear these racing. Lastly, I would recommend downsizing at least one size. I am 5'7" and 136lbs and the XS fit me well. Overall, I would recommend these to anyone looking for a solid pant to wear in all conditions while doing laps at your local resort, or heading into the backcountry.

Question from Scott Gilpin

Hi skimo -

Are these pants compatible with PDG boots? I assume so, but just want to make sure.

Thanks!

Answer from TSB

Hey Scott, the pants pair well with the PdG boot, but doesn't have any specific cutouts for the PdG buckles. A similar pant that does use specific cutouts for a side-throw buckle is the Crazy Idea Cervino pant.

Question from Steve Sauvé

Cut outs in cuffs for PDG downhill locks?

Answer from Jeff

Steve, Sorry, just a vertical cutout. There is a side zip that makes it easy to pull up. For a pant with a cut out for PDG boots, check out Repeat pant.
