Coming in a smashing Skimo Co blue, the Mezzalama 2 Race Jacket is a flexible, form-fitting, and warm jacket for racing, touring, training, and just generally getting after it in a variety of conditions. The Mezzalama 2 Race Jacket is made from a combination of stretch fleece and Carvico stretch fabric, allowing for fantastic mobility, breathability, and warmth in a lightweight jacket. Sticking with the theme of fast, for quick transitions this jacket sports internal pockets for your skins and two external chest zip pockets for nutrition, or other essentials. The fit is athletic, and part of that look comes in the form of a low-profile hood that will easily fit under a helmet. Elastic hem and trim around the hood, waist, and wrists of the jacket trap heat in the hopes of keeping you toasty like a French brioche. For additional warmth around the wrists, there are thumb holes in the cuffs for yet another layer to safeguard against intrusive snow that belongs on the ground, not up your sleeves. The Mezzalama 2 Race Jacket is a great choice for those looking into a breathable, athletic jacket with easily accessible pockets and naturally a piece that comes in Skimo Co blue.

  • Stretch fleece material makes for a flexible and cozy jacket.
  • Carvico fabric is quick drying and provides UV protection of UPF 50+ for those bluebird days.
  • Internal pockets and two chest zip pockets help with quick transitions.
  • Elastic hem and trim trap heat and keep the snow out in the case of a tumble.
  • Reflective accents make you more visible in low-light conditions.
  • Thumb holes on sides of the sleeves create a warmer fit around the wrists, especially when combined with gloves.
  • Form-fitting hood and athletic fit comfortably move with you on big vert days.

I love this jacket! It's a nice weight, breaths really well, and blocks just enough wind to keep from freezing on the way down. The pockets are also well positioned and appropriately sized. I can easily stow a couple pair of race skins, or even the full coverage mohair skins I use on my larger mountaineering skis. And the chest pocket works well for a phone, gels, and a soft water flask.

When it comes to sizing, trust the size chart. I'm 6'2"/185lbs and usually wear a large jacket or shirt. The chart called for a US medium, and that ended up being a perfect fit.

Question from Jason L

I usually wear a medium in most American brands, but I seem to be stuck halfway between a small and a medium here (5'9, 160lbs, 39.5" chest measurement). Which size do you suggest?

Answer from Gabriel I

Hi Jason, probably the small, especially if you're after the snugger race style fit. If you want a little more room under the jacket, opt for the medium.

Question from chance c

I apologize in advance for asking basically the same question everyone else has asked about sizing.

Background:
I currently use the TLT pants size 48 and a Mezzalama 2 Race Jacket also size 48 and they fit really well.

I’m 6’-2” 170 pounds, 31” waist.

This suit looks like a great option for race day outings if I can get the sizing right. The description starts with the 4 way stretch comment and I’m curious if it is best to hedge my sizing choice on stretching enough hight wise to work well if use a 48 or being narrow enough in a size 50 not to be baggy and somewhat less than ideal for wicking sweat.

I appreciate any input on this and understand if you chose to punt on the question.

Cheers and happy holidays to the Skimo.com team

Hi Chance, I presume you're talking about the Dynafit DNA 2 suit? This page is the Mezzalama Race 2 jacket, which you've got.

We'd recommend the same size as your race jacket, the suit should fit similarly. It might be a touch tighter, but it's fairly stretchy. So a 48 / Medium for you.

Put a full season into this jacket now and I love it. I wear it everyday. When it’s warm (20F+ or so) it makes a perfect outer layer. On colder days a perfect mid layer. I love the dedicated beacon pocket and pocket for skins. Breathable but if you put a thick base layer underneath still quite warm. On hot days or if I’m racing/ hard training just a tshirt under is perfect.

This is a high quality, versatile jacket from Dynafit. It is heavier than what you would expect. Fit is great. I am 6ft and weigh 157 #'s and the medium fits me fine. The only reason for a 3 star rating would be that it is not a warm jacket. The wind goes straight through it and if you are only wearing a base layer under it, chances are you will be very cold. To have temperature and wind protection, you need to layer underneath and wear a gore-tex type shell over it.

Question from Russ

Are the sizes listed in the selection drop-down US or European?

Answer from Ian C

Hey Russ, these are listed in US sizes! So if for example you are a European large, order the US Medium.

Question from Julen

Hi friends,

My name is Julen Urdaibai. I'm a stage racer. Next year, in February, I will race in the Arctic Circle, in Swedish Lapland. It is a race of 230 km., In self-sufficiency and with temperatures that oscillate between -25 to -30ºC.
As a runner I have never used skimo clothing. But for this race in particular I am evaluating this option. I will probably wear a thermal shirt from the Lurbel brand as a first layer, for extreme cold. But as a second layer I am in doubt whether to wear a jacket like the “Dynafit Mezzalama Race 2 Jacket”. Can you give me your opinion? Will the thermal layer + the Dynafit jacket be enough? Do I have an extra jacket in my backpack?
Thanks for your time.
Have a nice day.

Answer from Zak M

Hey Julen, thanks for the question. I would start off by saying that it would really depend on your experience and comfort with that low of temperatures on how you would end up layering and your ability to be comfortable while moving. From my experience, the Mezzalama Race 2 jacket is a slightly thicker racing jacket that combined with a thermal layer like you had mentioned would work well as long as you are moving, even down to fairly low temperatures. Many racers also might have a wind layer like the CAMP Flash Anorak Jacket or the new Dynafit DNA Race Wind Jacket that you are able to put on without taking off your pack. I am sure that your race would have a required gear list but what I have mentioned above would be a decent place to start! Feel free to shoot us an email at help@skimo.co with any more questions you might have.

Question from Matt Johnson

I am looking at buying the Mezzalama 2 Race Jacket. I’m 6’2”, thin but kind of a long torso. Most medium jackets fit me in width but some are a little short. What size would you recommend? Thanks!

Answer from jbo

Hi Matt, I'm similar in body type, an inch shorter, and I went with the medium which is working well. You could also use the Large though it might be a touch loose in some areas.

Question from John B

Hi, I’m looking at these and match pants and could use some help with sizing. I’m 5’11” and 166 lbs with a 42” chest and wear 32x32 jeans. Would I be a large jacket and small pant? I have Mercury pro pants in Medium and they fit well.... maybe slightly big in waist. Thanks!

Answer from Zak M

Hey John B, I'd suggest a medium in both the jacket and pants. The jackets do tend to have quite a bit of stretch in them so that medium could work out well.

Question from Curtis F

Will this be offered in the snazzy "quiet shade camo" color like the DNA 2 race suit? Not seeing it listed in that color on Dynafit's site either, but a few sketchy market sites claim to have it. I think the camo will be perfect for stealthy night ops runs when evading ski patrol's harassing comments about "skiing the wrong direction" or whatever.
9/30/2020
Answer from Julieana

Hey Curtis, the "quiet shade camo" color is only available in Europe. If the Frost blue color isn't stealthy enough for your ski patrol-evading night ops and you do end up getting it off one of those market sites just be aware that any warranty you may need will have to go through the European distributors and dealers, not American ones.
