Whether used for training, demanding traverses, or far-out ski mountaineering objectives, the Stratos Hybrid from La Sportiva is up for the task. Borrowing the cuff from the ultra-high-end Stratos VI, the Stratos Hybrid sports an easy-to-use ski/walk mechanism that allows for refreshingly quick transitions and increased reliability when compared to La Sportiva legacy systems. Bushings are used to connect the cuff with the lower shell that features La Sportiva's Anti-Wear system, helping provide a frictionless feel while ensuring your investment doesn't prematurely wear out. Unlike its higher-end sibling, the Stratos Hybrid uses a carbon-infused Grilamid lower specially made for La Sportiva, providing a durable and rigid platform that has a more palatable cost. S4 binding inserts are on hand to allow for seamless entry into Ski Trab bindings while the dual-density FriXion sole strategically combines harder and stickier rubber compounds for the best combination of grip and durability. Built for dedicated mountaineers and aspiring racers, the Stratos Hybrid from La Sportiva is made for those with lofty ambitions.

  • S4 binding insert allows for quick and easy entry into Ski Trab bindings.
  • Anti-wear bushings in the cuff provide a frictionless range of motion while resisting premature wear.
  • FriXion Wave Race outsole combines harder and softer rubber compounds to find the best combination of durability and grip.
  • Force Lite Closure System locks the foot down for precision while ascending and descending.
  • Ski/Walk mechanism allows for seamless transitions, saving you valuable seconds when the clock is ticking.
  • High-stretch waterproof gaiter is stretchy and resistant to abrasion.
  • Forward lean can be adjusted between 10°, 13.5°, 17°, and 19° allowing you to dial your stance to your preference.
  • Full crampon compatibility allows you to tackle races and objectives with confidence.

Question from Tim S

It appears that the La Sportivas have the widest last in these types of boots. I am looking for something with a wide toebox and am also dealing with a heel issue that needs a bit of space. Can we punch these?
10/21/2024
Answer from Jeff

Tim, They are a little bit wider, not wide. Still using Carbon infused Grilamid, can be punched but limited amount.

Shaun, We do not have the boots in yet, and that info doesn't seem to be available. We will post it when they arrive.

Question from Anthony O

Is this a stiffer boot than the kilo? Don't need a race boot, just curious if the carbon makes this just a more responsive kilo, ie kilo pro, rather than stratos step down. Looking for performance comparison as well to f1 xt against both this and the kilo.

Answer from jbo

Hi Anthony, while there is a touch more lateral stiffness, it's moving the other direction (uphill) overall. With a bikini liner, it feels like less of a boot but walks much better. It's comparable to the Alien 1.1 which is a race boot, noting some folks like myself put full liners into such boots which makes for an awesome hybrid.

Question from Dawes Wilson

It mentions the front tech insert is optimized for Ski Trab entry. What about other bindings?
10/9/2024
Answer from Carlos M

Hi Dawes,

No issue with other bindings! They just have a groove that is meant for stepping into Trab bindings without holding them open, which is a nice feature for the Trab lovers among us. They will work fine with any other tech binding too.

Question from Greg

Curious to know how these differ from the Raceborg 2? Seems like some product overlap there given the similar price points and specs.
10/2/2024
Answer from jbo

Hi Greg, the Stratos Hybrid is replacing the Raceborg 2 in La Sportiva's lineup. They decided to use the new lower from the Kilo for this quiver slot, retiring the Raceborg/Sytron shell for good. It has a different fit, but similar performance.

How does the sizing work with these? Is the 29.5 shell a 29.0/29.5 or a 29.5/30.0?

Answer from Jeff

Karl, This boot and the Kilo will be standard 26/26.5.
