With its reasonable weight, full-featured personality, and competitive cost, the Crest series from ATK has been a smart choice for many getting into backcountry skiing. Further distilled and refined, ATK has made thoughtful updates and improvements to the Crest 10 that build upon this already-proven platform. Compared to its predecessor, the updated Crest binding utilizes two heel risers smartly secured using magnets, allowing you to ascend steep skin tracks while avoiding any "clacking" when skinning. Using the same toe piece found on the beefier Raider SL series, the ergonomic toe piece offers a great downhill feel while improving its ease of use in deep snow conditions, thanks to its Snow Pack Proof design. Similar to its predecessor, the elastic travel in the heel and adjustable release values help keep the release values consistent while allowing you to adjust the release to your specific needs. Finally, the AP Brake System uses a tried and true push-brake design that is reliable, though, it does require two hands to operate. With its compilation of features and robust construction, the ATK Crest 10 is sure to please new entrants and experienced backcountry skiers alike.

  • Snow Pack Proof Toe resists the buildup of snow under the toe wings, ensuring reliable use even in deep snow.
  • Elastic Response System allows the natural flexing of the ski, ensuring the ski can perform as designed.
  • Adjustable release values between 4-10 accommodate most backcountry skiers.
  • BSL adjustment of 20mm allows you to share your setup with friends, should you be in a sharing mood.
  • AP Brake System is straightforward to operate by pushing down on the brake when rotating the heel.
  • Cam Release System allows for easy step-in to the heel, even in loose snow.
  • Magneto Heel Risers keep the risers from obnoxiously flapping around.

Question from Sue

Would you recommend these binding with the Volkl Rise Beyond 96 W or would you have a different recommendation. Headed to Japan, but ongoing will mostly be back country in the Sierras or BC.

Answer from Will McD

Hi Sue, the Crest 10 would be a great match for that ski! I would recommend the 97mm brake option in whichever color you prefer!

How wide of a ski will the largest brake fit over? My skis are 107s...

Jamie- You would be close for a 107mm waist ski. We do have wider brakes for that binding reach out to us at help@skimo.co and lets see what we can do for you.

Question from Tom

Just wanted to confirm that a brake seat cover would be required if removing the brakes from the newer versions of the Crest 10 binding? I sounds like the brake lock mechanism is actuated when the tower is spun 180 deg. so that the pins facing backward (similar to the raider / evo series models)?

Answer from eric

Tom- Yes you will need the brake seat cover for this new Crest binding.

Question from Daniel Z

Is there a free ride spacer and toe shim that works with this binding?
11/29/2025
Answer from eric

Daniel- There is an option for both. The Evo freeride spacer and the Speed shim will work on this binding. Both of those can be found here.

Question from Dan

Do you know the difference between the crest 10 and the raider sl 10? They Seem almost identical.
11/28/2025
Answer from Will McD

Hi Dan, good question! The Raider 10 SL will have more BSL adjustment in the heel track and a bit more lateral elasticity in the heel turret. Additionally, the second riser on the Raider 10 SL has an additional magnet on the second riser to better hold it against the heel pins when not in use (on the Crest the second riser needs to be pushed into the pins to stay in place).

Question from Marc

Hello,

I just mounted a pair of ATK Crest 10’s to my Solomon MTN 91. My question is what is the release value of the toe in ski mode? I’ve looked around and can not find a solid answer to this question.

Thanks,

Marc

Answer from Jeff

Hey Marc,

We have not tested this specific toe without a heel. In the past, our tests have shown that most toes release between 2 and 4 (aside from ATK toes with adjustable settings). Keep in mind that on this binding (and most touring bindings), the lateral release in ski mode is controlled via the heel with the lateral release setting.

Question from Scythian

Hello Skimo team,

I am considering a setup for rolling terrain based on 174 cm Altai Kom skis + Dynafit TLT8 boot. As far as bindings are concerned, I am converging to the choice between Marker Alpinist which I already have on one of my sets and ATK Crest 10, either this model or 2023/24. The use case is exploring terrain in Sierras (Yosemite, Stanislaus), with an option of pulling a sled for camping gear and HAM radio equipment. Which of the bindings above are preferable? Thanks.

Answer from Emmett I

Hi Scythian, both would work great for you. The Crest has adjustable vertical release, and if you're planning on using brakes, it's a bit lighter. And the current (this) model especially has very nice risers.

One big pro of the Alpinist is the gapless heel, which helps with consistent release. There's also something to be said for sticking with what you know as well.

Question from Susie

Hi there,
With a 99mm waist, would I get the 102mm binding? Also, I am aggressive skier but small (5'3", 110lbs), so my DIN setting is low--which Crest would be best?
1/20/2025
Answer from Carlos M

Hi Susie,

As long as your release value is between 5 and 10, this Crest will work great for you! It is the newer model with the updated heel risers and the newer toe piece. For a 99mm ski, the 102mm will work just fine, although you could probably go with the 97mm brake for a snugger fit as well!

Question from YH T

How does this ski/walk compared to the previous CREST 10? Does the toe piece offer significant improvement on downhill performnace?

With the added weight, struggle to see the main difference between this and raider...
12/13/2024
Answer from Gabriel I

YH, There are many ATK bindings, using a few toes and heels.
Compared to the previous Crest, this is an all new toe piece. It has the snowpack proof design, and a taller pin height. To reduce ramp angle. Compared to the Raider, it has the AP brake, where you have to hold the brake down and rotate.
There are a few Raider toes now, each will have a wider platform and some the adjustable toe release tension.
All Tech toes rigidly hold the boot to the ski and so different ones don't really ski that differently.
Overall, this a nice step up from the previous Crest model.

Will the 102mm width brake work with a 104mm ski?

Answer from Niko M

Hi Jeff! That'll work no problem. Brakes can often be pushed out ~5cm comfortably. Thanks!

Question from Garrett

How does this heel brake release/engage system work if trying to transition fast and not take the skis off?
10/21/2024
Answer from Emmett I

Garrett,

To release the brake, all you need to do is spin the heel. So same as the Evo brakes and most other brands twist-locking brakes. To stow them, you need to hold them down and twist the heel; slightly less efficient than some other systems. But I'm sure with practice it could be just as fast as other touring brakes.
