Question from Bob

Hi - thoughts on these as a replacement for Arc'teryx Procline Carbon, 27, Support liner? I'm still very snug all-around at the end of the liner's life cycle and may consider punching the shell for additional volume.

Thanks!

Answer from Will M

Hey Bob,

We actually recommend using a Palau Tour Lite Pro Evo as a replacement liner for this boot. It performs just as well as the stock on the up & the down. The Ultralight Race liner will be quite a bit thinner.

Question from mrp

I'm getting conflicted info in the reviews-- anyone want to say something definitive? I have atomic ultimate 27/27.5 boots, with the orange sock liner. If i'm getting a replacement 5mm ultralight liner, should I get size 27, or should they be sized down to 26?
12/16/2020
Answer from Zak M

Hey Mrp, I would just stick with the 27 liners because these ultralight liners already run a bit downsized.

Question from Sjaan Gerth

Liner sizing question/confirmation. Hi: I’m looking to replace the stock liners in a pair of Atomic Backland Ultimate boots (2018 orange sock). Based on previously questions seem like the ultralight 5mm is a good replacement. Boot size is 26/26.5. Based on my understanding this would be a size 25 liner due to the shell size difference with this boot? Many thanks for the help!

Answer from Zak M

Hey Sjaan, I would actually end up going with 26 or 26.5 liner option. The race liners do tend to run small.

Question from Brenton T

I am trying to replace the liners in my Dynafit Evo’s 26.5. Would this be a good fit or would the PDG liners make a better fit?

Answer from Zak M

Hey Breton, either of these liners could work quite well but right now we are very limited in replacement liners for the PDG liners. Looks like these Ultralight liners will be your best option.

Question from Robert Black

Is the Palau Ultralight Race Liner taller than the liner that comes in the Dynafit TLT7?
10/19/2020
Answer from Tristan M

Hi Robert,

What model of TLT7 are you referencing? Is it the TLT7 Carbonio/Performance, or is it the TLT7 Expedition? They have a very minor discrepancy in length. In size 29.5 the TLT7 Carbonio/Performance vary between 27 and 31.5cm, depending if you measure at the tongue or the rear of the boot. The Expedition varies between 28 and 31.5cm. The Palau Ultralight Race Liner varies between 30 or 30.5cm, with the medial lateral sides of the liner being the high points. Therefore, the Palau Liner comes in 2 to 3cm higher in the tongue.

I picked up these liners as a replacement to the stock liners for the 2018 Atomic Backland Ultimate boots. I love my boots so much I've beaten up the old liners in about one year and 50 days of hard PNW use.

The Palau Ultralight Race 5mm Liners are a GREAT REPLACEMENT for the stock backland liners.

I have now skied in them three times for 3 major ski mountaineering objectives (Mt. Adams/summit &SW Chutes, Mt. Hood/summit & old chute, Mount Shuksan) and they worked fantastic!

- They fit the boot very well!
- They are much easier to don/doff than the original sock style!
- They actually provide a little extra padding where the boot shell ends, this was my one complaint about the stock liners because it made side hilling not so enjoyable. But the new liners solve this problem.

Highly recommend these liners! I don't think I'll be going back to stock liners!

Question from Brad

I have a pair of Atomic Backland Ultimate boots (2018 vintage) that I have beat the crap out of my liners for. Would these lines be a viable replacement? My boots are still in great shape, just looking to replace the "sock" style liner. Thanks in advance.

Answer from Cole P

Brad, glad to hear you have been enjoying your Backland Ultimate boots. The Palau ultralight race liner in the 5mm option will work best with those boots and resemble the stock liners the closest.

Question from Austin M

Is the 5 mm compatible with the Alien 1.1?
4/20/2020
Answer from TSB

Hey Austin, the overall thickness of the 5mm Palau would suit the Alien 1.1 decently well, but it would make the BOA closure over the forefoot sit too low on the arch to function decently. Of course, you could modify the tongue of the boot with some closed-cell foam, but you can't graft foam onto the front of the Palau wrap liners as it would cause an asymmetry. Your best bet if you're looking for a replacement 1.1 liner is just to get the one that's available from Scarpa/Intuition, and then mod their OEM product to your heart's content.

Question from Jesse

Hi,

What would you recommend as a thinner, replacement liner for the Alien RS? Would these guys do the trick and what size is appropriate for a 27.0? Do I just order the size of the boot, I haven’t done this before? Also, I’m looking to thermo mood these a tad wider. Do you have the plug things to put on your toes when your molding? Finally would you recommend the 5mm or 7mm. I’m currently using and old dynafit tlt something liner that I’ve shaved off the sides of to accommodate my wide foot in this shell. Any insight would be great!

Best, Jesse

Answer from Teddy Young

Hey Jesse, thanks for reaching out! You should be able to use the same size, but the thickness will be based on personal preference! We usually don't recommend the Alien RS for wide feet, but it is possible to punch that boot in a pinch. The stock liner is thicker but less dense foam than 7mm, so they may be comparable. The 5mm will give you more width, but possibly too much volume in other locations.

Question from Simon

I have a question of the suitability of this liner in the 7mm version.

I purchased my alien 1.0 boots (v1 yellow) way back, when they first went on sale. At this time they had the ridiculously thin yellow and black wrap liners, these were more like wearing 2 pairs of socks and made the later pull on boot liners look like alpine race liners in comparison. My feet are MP 27, but due to low volume, the Alien in 27 was never going to work, so I got the 28. I threw the stock liners and instead used the dynafit race TF liner from the very first DyNA boot and the yellow tlt6 performance. This liner in a 27, fitted perfectly in my 28 shell and has worked well for many years. Now having been through 2 pairs, the 2nd pair are now ready for the trash.

The obvious replacement is the tongued grey 7mm tour lite pro, this is pretty much an identical liner to the dyna TF liner. In a size 27 this works well in the alien 28 shell. But, part of me is keen to go to a wrap liner over the tongue design. So my question is, do you think the palau ultralite wrap liner in 7mm, size 27 will work out? Now I know that 7mm is 7mm in whichever liner, but the the ultralite is made of the more flexi EVA SD foam and I am concerned that it may pack out quickly. What do you think, palau tongued or Palau wrap? Any advice gratefully recieved, thanks.

Answer from TSB

Hey Simon, thanks for reaching out! It sounds like you are extremely dialed on your liners so I may recommend ordering one of each so that you can get the exact fit you are looking for (or even keep both so that you can have some liner choice!). That said, for a boot with a very skinny cuff such as the Alien 1.0, the Palau wrap (aka Ultralight 7mm) may fit in a bit better and allow more snug cuff-tensioning.

Hey Cliff, unfortunately we're not carrying the RaceBorg so I can't do an in-person try-out, but I'd bet the 7mm would be a good fit!

Question from Christopher

Looking for a replacemt liner for some first Gen Maestrale RS boots. Would the 7mm work well or would I want a higher volume liner?
10/19/2019
Answer from TSB

Hey Christopher, unless you're looking to change the feel and performance of the boot quite a bit, I wouldn't recommend the Palau race liners for a Maestrale RS. The direct replacement for a new Maestrale liner is the Pro Flex G from Intuition (https://skimo.co/scarpa-liners), which will be thicker, warmer and stiffer than a race liner.

Question from Alexander N

What replacement liners would you recommend (Palau or any others) for Alien 3.0s?
2/22/2019
Answer from Jeff

Alex, Sorry there is not anything that would really stand in for the liner that comes with the boot.
I looked at Scarpas list of replacement items and they do not list it. Have you tried to contact Scarpa ?
2/25/2019
Answer from Alexander N

Yes I contacted them, they told me they could not sell directly and asked me to contact a US dealer! So you don't have a replacement option for the boot liners?

Hi Alex, we don't have any bikini liners in stock. Let us know what size you need and we can try for you.

Question from Mike

I have size 29 Aliens, my street shoe size is normally 10.5/28.5.... would the 28.5 liner swim in the shell or is there not a big difference in volume in the half size?

Answer from Nate

Hi Mike, we generally advise sizing the liner to the size of the shell. I would suggest a 29 unless you have a specific reason for wanting to go with a different size.

Question from Ted

How thick is the sole on these?
Thanks
7/9/2018
Answer from Trace Leches

Hey Ted! The thickness of the sole seems to be right in line with the thickness of rest of the foam in the liner, meaning if you get a 5mm liner then the sole is probably about 5mm thick, same theory goes for the 7mm. I skied in the 7mm for a long time and didn't really notice any huge increase/decrease in volume that was related directly to the sole.

JDT (used product regularly)

I bought the 7mm to replace worn out Alien 1.0 liners. Very comfortable. Nice and warm. Thanks to the overlap design, I now enjoy getting into my Alien 1.0's without having to slip the liners on first (and removing my foot from both the liner and boot). Though the foam is not nearly as dense as the stock 1.0 liners, I get a sense that these have increased ski performance compared to the stock 1.0 liner (perhaps due to the overlap design?). When comparing these side-by-side, the Palau liners are thicker than the 1.0 liners and don't have the neoprene cut outs, hence the ankle articulation is slightly stiffer. However once I started skinning, I didn't feel any noticeable difference. These come up considerably higher than the Alien 1.0 liners, well above the cuff. These liners also fit into my TLT7's quite well, and I imagine they would make a good replacement for those boots...though I have not actually used that combination. These are moldable, but I didn't bake them. The first 3 tours felt a bit tight. However, these are thin race liners and seemed to mold themselves, and they now feel great.

Will the 5mm work in an alien 1.0. Looking to replace the liner and can not find a 26.0 liner anywhere in the US. The original alien liner was a good fit so looking to match that.

Hi Brian, yes, these are designed for race boots such as the Aliens. The 5mm is close to the stock liner so should work well for you.

Question from FREDERICK L

Hi Skimo,

I currently have Palau 8mm tongue liners in my Dynafit TLT 6's, but am thinking of trying an overlap liner for better comfort and performance.

Would you recommend the Ultralight Performance in the 7mm thickness to try?

Thanks

Fred
12/4/2017
Answer from Trace Leches

Hey Frederick, thanks for reaching out. I think this liner has pretty excellent potential to work for you unless you are already running the buckles on the instep and cuff as tight as possible! Because the liner is 1mm thinner, you may have to buckle the boot a bit tighter, so if you're doing that already then I think a thicker liner would work better for you, otherwise this is a great option!

Looking for a replacement liner to suck up some volume in my last sportiva syborgs, focused more on touring and less on downhill, would you recommend these, the tour light performance, or the intuition race fx? Thanks.

Answer from jbo

Hi Anthony, I'd go with the TLPs, when are thicker than the Syborg liners and have a good flex zone.
