Salomon Precut Skins

Two mighty brands, Salomon and Colltex, got together to make skins and they couldn’t have done a better job. Pre-trimmed for the sidecut and length of your favorite Salomon ski, all you have to do is peel the backing off, adjust the tail clip, and go ski. The precut skins are Colltex’s mohair-mix formula, a light and packable all-around skin with excellent grip, glide, and waterproofing measures.

  • 100% Dry membrane on the backing means less waterlogged glue so your skins stay fresher longer.
  • 100% Grip treatment for superior grip capabilities in addition to Colltex’s above-average gliding capabilities.
  • MTN Explore/Carbon skins have Colltex’s traditional metal tip brackets and adjustable tail clips for easy on/off.
  • MTN Summit/Pro skins have bungee race-tips that slot quickly into the tip notches on the skis and an adjustable tail hook to further secure the skin.

Update 2022/23: The MTN 96 Carbon and MTN 86 Pro skins were added, the latter of which comes with bungee tips.

Update 2023/24: QST Echo skins were added to the line. Same great skin.

Question from Mark

Will the skins cut for the QST Echo 106 also fit the non-Echo QST 106?
2/26/2024
Answer from Emmett I

Mark,

Yep, the QST 106 has the same edge profile/turn radius as the Echo version, so they should work fine!

Question from Laurence

Hi,
I need skins for two skis. Can you help?
1:: Solomon QST 106
2:: Volkl Blaze 94
Thanks!

Answer from Jeff

Laurence, We can help. There isn't a precut skin for either of those skis. So you will need a Trim to fit skin for each.
We have the same skin from Colltex - Colltex. Choose the right length for your ski.
Currently, there are not a lot of sizes and models on hand, but please email help@skimo.co with the lengths of your skis, and we can send you options for both.

Answer from Cole P

Hello Laurence, thanks for reaching out. We can definitely help you out. For your skis I would recommend looking at trim to fit skins and there you will find some great options. I would recommend either Contour guide mix skins or Black Diamond glidelite skins as they will have the most sizes in stock at this time. To get the right length for your skins you will want to find the range that your ski length falls into. To make sure you have the right width of skin just make sure you are wider than the tail width of your ski. If you are looking for further help feel free to send us an email to help@skimo.co and there we can give you further recomendation.

Question from Logan

If I have these skins in a 170, will they fit the mtn summit 79 in a 164? Aka what is the length adjustment possible with these skins? Thanks
4/13/2021
Answer from Zak M

Hey Logan, with the bungee attachment on the precut skins you should be able to tension the bungee tight enough so they fit. You wouldn't have a ton of adjustment range but it can be done.

Question from Franklin C

I am actually having trouble regluing my Salomon skins. The Montana liquid adhesive doesn't want to stick to what is a pretty slippery backing for the skins. Seems like the waterproofness of the skin is causing this. Any suggestions?

Answer from jbo

Hi Franklin,

Good question, we haven't tried the aftermarket Montana liquid. The glue on the kits from Montana is super (too) sticky! It's always a bit of experiment mixing glue and backing from different vendors.

I was happy that the Salomon precut skins were the same Colltex mix skins I have been using for years. On my well-worn skins, the grip and glide are still excellent. The new skins seem to have a bit better glide and grip but how much is due to improvements or just being new, I do not know.

My other skins have a "glue matrix weave" and are only lightly sticky. This hotmelt glue is very sticky and I don't see an issue with the skin adhering to the ski. It's not so sticky as to transfer to either the ski base or to the lycra/spandex skin sock I use. As I do not intend to stick glue-to-glue, I expect the glue to be long lasting.

And on the sixth tour, on a windy summit, a section of the skins stuck glue-to-glue and now there are glueless areas matched by double-glue areas. I shudder to imagine the damage from doing the typical glue-to-glue (I use a skin sock).

Note: Salomon pre-cut uses hotmelt white/clear

Skin glide and grip: excellent.

GLUE: NOT recommended!

Question from Bill Hegman

I have a pair of the precut Salomon Colltex skins for my MTN 95 177cm skis and I need to reapply the adhesive or at least touch it up. Can you recommend the proper adhesive? Thanks
2/9/2021
Answer from Zak M

Hey Bill, you could end up touching up the skins with the Colltex Adhesive Tube but we are currently out of stock at the moment. You can actually use any skin glue to reglue your skins as long as you scrape all the existing glue off first. Unfortunately, we are running really short stock of all skin glue but if you wanted to email help@skimo.co we could set you up with an email notification when we get some in.

Question from Tammy L

I have the same Salomon Explore 88W but in 153 cm length. The smallest Pomoca Free is the one you have above. Will that still work for 153 cm?

Answer from eric

Tammy-The Salomon skins are made by Colltex, not by Pomoca.

Question from Erin

I have the Salomon Explore 88W in a 161cm. Are there precut skins for the length? If not, could you recommend an alternative? Thanks so much!
11/23/2020
Answer from Will M

Hey Erin,

We don't have any pre-cut skins for that specific size of the Salomon Explore 88. I recommend taking a look at the Pomoca Free Pro 2.0, it's an awesome all around skin! A 123mm x 155-170cm would fit your ski seamlessly. Thanks for the question!

Question from Lincoln

Can you fit Solomon QST 99 174 cm 136 99 118 Radius 19m
6/10/2020
Answer from Jeff

Lincoln, Salomon does not make precut skins for the QST line. So going with a trim to fit skin is the way to go. The G3 Minimist in the 115mm x 172-184cm would be an ideal fit and light skin. Another good choice would be the Contour Hybrid. They have a Hybrid glue that is easy to pull apart and from your skis.

Question from Ben

I have heard that these skins can't come in contact glue to glue (skin savers must always be used). Is this true?
11/4/2019
Answer from Jeff

Ben, Colltex is now recommending that skin savers be used with their skins. Can you do what you wish...... For any skins you should not store glue to glue or on your skis.
11/4/2019
Answer from jbo

Hi Ben, lots of folks are still slapping these glue to glue in the field, but you don't want to store them for any length of time that way.

Question from Julia

Hi, I have a pair of Salomon QST 92 skis in a 164 length. Which skins would you recommend for these skis?
1/28/2019
Answer from Jeff

Hello Julia, there is not a Precut skin for your ski. You will need to get another skin and fit to your ski.
This one will work, order the STS 110mm kit.

Question from JMC

It looks like the 170mm X-Alp skins are no longer available. What would you recommend instead?
1/19/2019
Answer from Trace Leches

Hey JMC! The 80mm Voile Superlite skin is a good alternative. There's also always the option of building your own skins. Outside of that, any standard skin with a tip and tail bracket would work.

Hi JMC, I believe we have a few more sets on the way. Happy to put your name on a pair.

Question from ron

will these skins fit atomic mountain explorer 950 177 mm ski without cutting them
6/11/2018
Answer from Trace Leches

Hey Ron. I can't tell for sure but I think you're thinking of the Atomic Backland 95 177? If so, they'd be pretty close but not guaranteed and you'd have some overhang at the tips. FYI most of the skin kits come with their own skin trimmers that are easy to use for the most part. The Pomcoa skins have the best cutter and don't require any off-setting and it only takes about 5 minutes to get them trimmed.

Question from Gavin

Hi! I'm looking at the Salomon MTN Explore 95 ski in the 169cm length. It looks like the pre-cut skins are sold out right now. When do you estimate you'll get more in?

Thanks!
4/2/2018
Answer from Nate

Hi Gavin, I just looked into getting more in stock but it appears that Salomon is sold out for the season. I don't think we will be getting any more in this year.
4/4/2018
Answer from Gavin W

Nate, that is a bummer but thanks for letting me know. What is my next best option? I currently use the pre-cut Dynafit Speedskins on my Cho Oyus and really like them. I know they are a Pomoca skin. Do you have anything similar to the Speedskin which could be cut to fit the MTN Explore 95? Thanks!
4/4/2018
Answer from jbo

Hi Gavin, Salomon also uses Pomoca skins. Your best bet is grabbing a pair of the S-Glides and trimming them to fit the MTN Explore.
